Not only do I lift it, I set the whole 10-space rack on top of my fullstack. A few days into tour I start looking for a bit of help hoisting it, but I can do it alone. I'm pretty strong though...

When I took my 2150 to get serviced by Steve my ex-girlfriend went and picked it up for me. My friend John who worked there still remembers her coming in and picking it up a few years ago!!

I love the ADA mp-1. i just redid my rack an I have a ada mp-1, an alesis smashup compressor thru the effects loop for the clean patches, digitech dhp-55 marmonizer, digitech tsr-24s, two peavey 60/60 tube power amps, a vintage marshall 4x12 cab, and a carvin 4x12 cab. I wired it so that the effects and harmonies come our the carvin and a totally dry signal comes out the marshall. And i use a single humbucker usa charvel w/floyd.

      it kicks ass!

Please excuse the n00b - ness of this post, since I know nothing about rack gear...

Let's say if I get an ADA MP-1, it's a tube preamp with tube effects, and is programmable, correct?

So... it would basically replace my GT-6, as it serves the same functions, just with better tone (since it's tube)?

And if I were to use the ADA MP-1 with my DSL 201 combo, can I place it in front of the amp input to get the tube preamp of the ADA, while running my GT-6 in the FX loop just for effects?

          Yes!

No, As far as effects go, you get basically just Chorus and some tremolo in the MP1.

Yes, the MP1 was designed to go in front of an amp or used with a power amp in stereo. For your setup, you would plug the "Mono out" or "A" channel" into the DSL, then use the GT6 in the effects loop of the MP1. Hope this helps.

I received my Voodoo Amps modified ADA MP-1. Just awesome! I'm getting rid of my Marshall heads. No need to lug them around anymore!

That's great to hear and I'm very glad that you are happy with it! If you need anything what so ever we are always here for you.

            Have a great day

I believe that Hairston is in the US (could be wrong, but I'm almost sure he's here) and definitely remember that he got very busy with his job and had to indefinitely stop doing MP-1 mods. But I remember his work being praised as impeccable and many saying that it rivaled and/or surpassed the Voodoo mods.

Regarding our modifications: The mods that we offer are mods that we designed and are propriotary to Voodoo Amps (IE: they were are not the same and nor were they derived from any of the ADA mods). We have made a small update to the Standard Mod which results in the preamp being much smoother over all (Bengal65 has the updated version).

We do offer updates to the most current version for those who already have a Standard or Deluxe Voodoo modified MP-1.

              Hope it helps

Wow, nice to hear from you Trace! The Deluxe Mod is sounding great. Lot's of good Marshall cranked tones and clean settings too.

I've got an MP-1 in great original shape. It hasn't been used in years. I'm sure the internal battery is toast. Is there a preferred place to get ADA parts? I think the batteries are easy to find, but I also have the B200S power amp with broken output jacks (cheap, flimsy plastic). I tried finding info on the ADA depot forum to no avail. I even ordered some from an electronics mag that looked close. No dice. It's a sh%t power amp anyway, but it worked good for monitors. My current pwr amp is a Boogie 50/50.

I ended up with the stock ADA MP-1 from Pete "Twisteramps"...
and im running it in stereo thru a VHT 2/90/2 with BBE sonic stomp.
It rips! At least twice what i used to get out of my DSL-2000 50 watt
I doubt ill ever be a Marshall owner again. VHT for this ole boy

ADA Depot is THE place for help and locating parts, someone there should be able to help. I got a chip from someone on there to mod the board so I didn't need a battery and it works great. I also have an ada power amp with broken sockets, but it sounds like shit compared to me Peavey classic so I'm not even going to bother fixing it.

BTW, I now have an ENGL 520 preamp that absolutely murders the ADA as far as balls, gain and clean signal. I loved the ADA back in the 80s, but if you didn't have a Hush in your signal chain, you had a very noisy rig. I'm keeping mine just for posterity, but I doubt it will see much action as long as the ENGL is around.

Man, clean MP-1's are fetching good money on eBay right now. A couple of years ago, you could find them all day long for $75.

+1 I'm running the same setup, except through the BBE rack unit and the G-Major tapped in.

I picked up a Line6 AM4 Amp Modeler pedal (amps only, no FX) and run it along with the MP-1/TSR12 setup into my PC, each panned hard left/right through a Rolls line mixer (1U rack). The AM4 is totally dry - no fx on it - and when blended with the rack combo, I'm getting killer stereo/twin guitar tones (Smith/Murray, Tipton/Downing).

Is there an MP1 mod that keeps the stock gain for the tube distortions but allows you to get a brilliant, loud tube-powered clean tone with absolute 0 breakup? I don't mind the S.S. clean but I'm using the TSR12 to boost the signal because of the drastic differences between the tube and SS voicings.

The MP-1 has been at the heart of my rack for years, but I've never been able to a great "loud" clean tone out of it using the tube clean mode...it seems to do a better job of getting a cranked vintage amp tone. I use the SS clean for live use.
All the mods that I am aware of are to increase gain...if you find a clean channel mod, please share the source!
