There is absolutely no question which amp you should choose.

    VETTA

To answer your question regarding if a Vetta is better than your current XT Live...

    HERE IS THE ANSWER>>>>>

The Vetta makes an XT Live sound like an old Sholtz Rockman.

      I believe John..

But you have to decide if you want a tube amp to achieve your tone or a Vetta..which is the pinnacle of amp modeling..John G invested much time and patience to get the most from the Vetta..I'm not that patient..I just want to turn a few knobs, and smell the warm tubes..

The Stilletto was the best sounding Mesa I've ever played, ..I owned a Recto and MrkIII..The III sounded like Gary Moore.."Coridoors of Power"..which isn't a bad thing..

I can't praise the JSX enough..it really kicked ass. I strongly urge to go to your nearest Peavey dealer and test drive one..it''ll put a smile on your face !!

Funny, Cleveland John and I can get better versions of the classic VH tone with his CAE+3 and my Bogner..both ballsy, and just bigger sounding in general..well, they didn't have this stuff back then.

But doing VH material since I was 13 with my bud..the JMP-1 was truly a godsend..before that, he ran a old Super Lead and early JCM 800, Variac, Echoplex, and all the MXR stomps..NOISY!!

This is our advice..but let your ears be the judge..

      Good Luck!

And while you're "amp hunting",,,,,it wouldn't hurt to plug into a Soldano , would it? Preferably a SLO100. Set the gain on the overdrive channel to 5-6, treble on 3, mid on 2, bass on 4,,,,,wiggle the presence knob, but keep it low,,,,,,,now raise the master,,,,keep going.......okay? Now play your favorite riff. I told you so!!!!!!!! Bring your own axe, your bank account, and a change of underwear. You'll definitely want this one on your wall. EVH and VAI shared more than lead singers, you know!... Each has spent their fair share of time plugged into an SLO100!

The Vetta and the XT share the same processors and modelling architecture... so you're saying the Vetta sounds like TWO scholtz Rockmans?

I think I know what John is saying. My XT live thru the wrong type of power section sounds like a thin, processed POS. The Vetta is matched to it's power section (duh) so you don't have that problem.

I owned a Vetta since one and just recently sold it to down size to a POD XT/Atomic set up.

If you like lots of sounds and effects and are willing to tweak, go Vetta all the way !!!! Tweaking is NOT for everyone..........

If I had to buy a tube amp that didn't cost a ton of money (SLO ) the JSX would be at the top of my list.

I'm not a Mesa fan. Every Mesa I have played seems to be a one trick pony.

I think his budget was around $1k... why don't some of you Einsteins recommend a freakin' trainwreck or dumble while you're at it?

JSX! Vetta's are great but, are missing that breath of fresh air that you get when playing thru a tube amp. It's just not there (nor is it in ANY of the 5 modellers I own). I'll get a Vetta II head only when I have "mad" money again because you can do so much with it. I'd take the real tube goodness that you just can't get from modellers (and I like modellers) but, you can get it from the JSX. I'd rather have a JSX than a Stiletto. I had a Trident and it was nice but, I'd still rather have a JSX.

Disclaimer: can't speak about Hughes & Kettner Modellers as I've never tried them.

I would but I dunno if Dumbles are the best for Zakk Wylde tones

The Vetta is more well rounded than the other choices. The drawback is it has a high learning curve.

For versatility in a tube amp, I say JSX.
