Ok kids, let's try this again. Here's my test rig:
EJ strat into my PC, direct. Made a 320k mp3 file of that dry/clean guitar track, put it in my iPod.
Plugged my iPod into an 18 watt marshall, recorded three times so far:
1) amp with mallory caps
2) amp with Sozo (new) caps
3) amp with Sozo (after 50+ hour burnin) caps
Reason why I plugged in the ipod was so I would have the exact same input each time. Didn't move the mic, used same recording settings also on a Korg D1600 multitracker.
Each track was burned from the D1600 to wav file, then those wavs were edited in Adobe Audition to only cover the 'back in black' part of the clip, due to the size of the files. This took out extra A/D D/A or whatever steps, including being converted to MP3. These should be a little more hi fi than the original MP3s I posted in threads earlier.
Anyways, here are the clips:
Note: files aren't in any discernable order, feel free to guess what is what. I'll be more than glad to give my two cents and reveal what is what *AFTER* people have discussed it a bit - I don't want to show my hand and then have people pro or anti Sozo get their licks in.
I know the playing isn't that great, and the clip is quick, but it's the best comparison I can give - I'd recommend anyone who builds many amps should do something like this, just to be sure you're using parts you like. I'm starting to consider buying a set of Orange Drops now... and a different output transformer. Jeez, this is almost a sickness.
