There are alot of advantages of buying used.

Just because you can buy a JSX used for $800 on Ebay doesn't devalue what a new one sells for.

    Think about it this way:
If you went into a car dealership and the sticker price on a new car you were looking at was $20K but they had the exact same used one with 12K miles on it that was 1 year old for $15K does that mean the dealer is ripping you off for 5K on the new car?? Does it mean that actual value of the new car is not 20K but rather 15K?? Nope.
You pay a premium when you buy something new because its NEW!!!
You also get a warranty most of the time and distributor, dealer and maybe even manufacturer support. Many times you get a return policy.
Its also nice to know that all the "miles" you are putting on your amp are YOUR miles. There is something to be said about that.
John point well taken, But a good evalution and some playing time should be able to reveal if the amp in question is one has been pampered or a used whore..like a car.

I bought many amps from dudes that just bought them new and never left the house and never gigged with them, they looked and smell spankin' new..that's what you want to find. Such was the case with my Uber, dude just bought it lost his job and wanted out of the payments..his loss..my gain.

Because the JSX is a hot seller now I doubt you're going to talk someone into "such a deal". $1349.95 is the price at MF right now so I doubt you're going to get one for near $800 new.

Another thought is this: One of the advantages of buying a new one is service. If you're having to buy this by mail, service is going to be limited unless there's a Peavey Service Center in town. You're going to be paying shipping every time you need something done under warranty, and with things like tubes being both fragile and not covered against shipping damage, maybe you'd be better off buying a used one like Pete's and putting the difference in the bank to draw interest until repairs are needed.

I agree. I sold my JSX on the bay for $700, plus shipping of course. I had bought it new and used it for about three months in the basement. So some lucky bastard got a virtually new head for $5-600 less. It could go the other way, though. You could get one with problems. Paying the extra money for a new one is just insurance if you don't want to gamble on used. I've been pretty lucky so far with the used stuff that I've bought. Just my two cents. Good luck!
        Cheers!

Great score! Congrats! Which tubes are you going to put in? I favored the EL34s myself, but many people prefer 6L6s in there for the beefier sound. Let us know how you like it.
            Cheers!

thanks, I think that's a great price...Hopefully it is as mint as the seller describes. Right after I won it, I got an email from this other seller who has a nib one for $944 which included shipping. So, there are still deals out there, you JUST need to find them.

As for the tubes, it all going to depend on how those stock EL34's sound with my current rig. It's nice to know that I can go the 6l6 if I want.

I was watching that one too, I almost went for it.
                Congrats great price!
Everytime I've heard a JSx that sounded great it had 6l6's in it.
                I'd go with those.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Good score, now budget for a 6L6 retube, because those amps don't sound that great (IMHO) with the EL34s. You'll be surprised what a difference it makes.

I shoot to buy new gear at 40% off. That'd put a new JSX head at around $1,000. Though 40% off is getting tougher to get due to MAP and other factors.

I've heard good things about the 6l6s. Definately something for me to think about.

Well the difference when running my Marshall JMP-1 with a Marshall 9200 poweramps loaded with EL34 and 6L6 are completely night and day..even my two 2210 were loaded with 5881's!!

As far as Marshalls are concern , they are not known for the low end..but mainly their very fast attack and articulate definition I always loved...

Peavey is a different animal right off the bat. Much like a 5150 or Recto, the JSX with EL34 has more low end that any Marshall loaded with 5881 (6L6).

I always gravitated towards 6L6 over EL34 years ago.

The JSX I tried at GC was loaded with EL34 and sounded amazing, I KNOW I would like 6L6 even more..

While on this subject a few here knew I was contemplating coverting my Uber due to that there was much too much midrang "honk" at high volume levels for my liking. But I was lucky enough to have a stock JJ preamp tube go bad. That led me to getting Tung Sol preamp tubes which remedied that "honk" along with much more low end and gain. That was just good advice and dumb luck...I'll never go back to JJ's again..not in the Uber anywhoo.

Good luck..when test driving the JSX don't be afraid to used the gain control on the ultra channel..it's ALL 100% usuable,..unlike a Recto or 5150 that completely mushes up at 1:00..
