  • Pickup suggestions?

    Hey guys,

A friend of mine has an Epiphone Dot 335 and wants a nice pickup to replace the stock ones he has. He's a former drummer and is now playing rock guitar and running a Vox AD100 (I think that's the model). He wants to basically tighten up the bottom end and get an overall bigger tone. The thing is to get the tone he wants, I think he'd need a solid body guitar (more LP style, or something other than a hollowbody), but he likes this guitar and wants to experiment. I suggested a Duncan Custom, but I'd like some more input before I tell him what to order for sure. The custom has some nice thick mids (in my Rhoads at least), and really high output pickups might just provide insane feedback, so any suggestions and comments are welcome here. Thanks all!

Gibson Burstbuckers would probably sound nice in that Epiphone, and get the tone he wants.

      Swear to God...

There's a mod for the old style hums that would do that, I did it
on my Guild Starfire semi-holowbody. Essentially you trim/cut the pole
pieces on so that they're even lengthed. AFAIR it smoothed out the
magnetic field and tightened and brightened the sound noticably.

Damn can't find that printed info now, but I remember removing them all
and cutting them with a hacksaw to be the same exact (well close) length.

Nothing to lose if he is going to ditch them anyway
