Soldano vs. Vetta 2

I dunno, man, I heard the AX2 had a lot of problems plus you don't see 'em around much anymore. How similar IS a Vetta to your personal computer for example? How long do all your PCs last? Mine last about 4-5 years...

First off, you are saying "I heard". I've seen em still being used. If you really want to do the personal computer vs Vetta comparison, Take a close look at any modern channel switching guitar amp and look at how complex the circuit board is, and how many ICs and logic chips you have for midi switching, channel switching, etc. At least the Vetta doesn't have super-hot tubes soaking the PCB with heat every time you use it.

As far as I know, the Vetta was rolled out in 2001, so some are 6 years old already. I worked at a company that used a Macintosh from '85 as a webserver back in '99... admittedly it was a stunt (they had a website devoted to it) but it did work well for the small tasks they assigned it.

with the way things are heading ie. lin6, PRS, Gibson, Yamaha, and now Fender .... Guitars are going to have processors that equals to the Pods, GT-8, etc ... built in the guitar. USB guitars for all your patch needs!

It will take a very long time for the Vetta to be obsolete and impossible to have repaired. I am willing to take my chances because it sounds that good.

I dunno about that. My Voodu Valve took a crap (a $600+ unit from a big company), and the chip in it is over with and it can't be fixed. And that unit is still in production. They just changed the chip now and it is different supporting architecture. They don't even repair stuff in house anymore. Rocktron has REALLY displayed to me how this stuff can go.

You really think it would do their business well to just keep releasing software (for free) that keeps an old unit improving and improving? Eventually, they will get a new line of CPUs and as soon as that happens, they won't be paying to build that old CPU or chipset or a lot of surrounding proprietary stuff, that's for sure. At that point, it's done.

With multi layer, surface mount and extremely custom ULSI parts, it takes the ability to repair out of most places hands even if the main CPU doesn't crap out.

Ya buy a new one...

so far, Line 6 has provided the ability to download the newest Vetta software from their newest model amp and upgrade your existing older Vetta to the newest Vetta standard.

that kinda pops your resale value theory, at least as regarding the Vetta. it's also another reason Vetta owners love that amp.

Did anyone notice I said "resale value"? How much are AX2's worth now a days? The same can be said for Vetta1 vs Vetta2. The prices drop when the next 'model' comes out. Good tube amps will hold their own, sometimes increase.

I'm not debating tone here. Strictly on resale value (which is all I said), over time, the Soldano will win.

I will say this.
if your fundage is not unlimited, and you only can afford to spend about $1000 on an amp total, including cab, which is a lot of people, then a used Vetta combo upgraded to 2.5 with the floorboard is by far the most amp you can get for your money.

that, and the killer tone, with the two amps at once mixing in stereo, sold me on the Vetta. I've been blown away by it, for what I spent.

Make sure you get a few nice patches from some of the more generous posters on this board, as soon as it arrives. It will makea world of difference, and it will give you insight into tweaking the thing. A midi cable helps as well.

Sanctuary just said it...Half price! Doesn't sound like it held its value too much...Line6 does pretty good with keeping users going but...It will be out done just like any other CPU...

Another good reason to spilt you rig...I might have to drop $ on new XTLive (or similar) but I'll always have my power amp and cabs!

and if my xt goes down I can still plug straight in to my XXX...If a vetta goes down...Yerrr out!

I like your logic. I am pretty happy with my XTL, and I agree that it's nice to have less $ into a portable, sturdy, reliable (thus far) package that can be plugged into a tube amp if you wish.

Are you kidding me??? A new Vetta is $1699.00
A used Vetta is $1000-$1100

A new Marshall TSL 100 is around $1299.00+
A used TSL100 is $750.00

I bought a used Tremoverb head for $900.00
I could go on and on and on with examples.
Just about every piece of gear on the planet takes a huge hit when you sell it used. Just like cars. There are some rare exceptions (just like cars too) but for the most part, you are going to take a bath if you buy an amp new and then decide to sell it. Modeling or tubes or whatever.

But you're comparing an AX2 to a Vetta II.

I mean, if they can actually improve on the Vetta II, then there will be no need for any tube amps at all.

The two amps are two entirely different things. With the Vetta 2, they've come close to perfecting what they're doing. Look at the Roland Cube. I still haven't heard a better clean channel on any other modeller or a great many tube amps. Not on the Soldano either. Fender Deluxe Reverb, yeah, but that little modelling CUBE is as close to perfect as it gets, on the clean channel.

Here is the big difference. The AX2 is not flash upgradeable. The Vetta is.

Thats why the AX2 isn't around or popular anymore.
