Buffering the signal path
One thing to consider with more than 2 or 3 pedals is signal path integrity. I presently have a short pedal board (Ibanez CF-7 chorus/flanger and Ibanez SM-7 smashbox), but plan to add more (as my budget allows). I recently plugged in a few more pedals, when a friend showed up to jam, and I noticed with all of them off that my amp sounded funky. I read up on the issue and found some great references to adding a pedal buffer. Basically, adding a lot of pedals changes the impedance of your signal path.
