  • AMT Distortion Pedals

so I'm checking out new distortion pedals, and right now, I'm looking at the AMT Du Hast (previously Rammstein) Distortion, the Extreme III and the Metalizer. How heavy sounding pedals are they? Although I want heavy, I also need a good amount of string definition. Anyone try these? I know that some people have the Extreme III and call it a "Mesa in a box." Exactly how hi gain of a mesa do they sound?

    thanks.

My Extreme III has plenty of gain on tap, and the string definition is great, nice and clear.

The Metalizer has the best tone to me as to their sound clips. Kinda like early Testament tone Jack.

exactly how heavy does that sound? I don't own a Rectifier, so idk .

is that the REALLY HEAVY channel? Like, Lamb of God heavy?

also, being a Rammstein fan, it just adds to the awesomeness.

I've got the California Sound, whose name suggests a Mesa
sound, and the thing's freakin' amazing. It's way heavy, yet
apparently the ones you mention are even heavier. I've only
had mine a few days, but I like it a lot. Works great direct
to the board too. Can't praise it enough...

ya, I was looking at that one but I think I'm looking for a heavier sound. Besides the Astral Tube Distortion, these things aren't THAT expensive, which i am VERY happy about.

it came today. and my first thoughts were "damn, this is weird packaging!" and "damn! this thing is small!" well anyway, after setting it up, I tweaked a few knobs, put the amp on the clean channel, and stared in amazement. I got this really crunchy, but really death metal sounding distortion that was loud as hell with half volume, and my clean amp on 1! it sounded kinda like Obituary's Frozen in Time album, but slightly more lowend. Kind of like Nevermore's tone in "Ambivalent," that nice distorted crunch in the intro, but a little bit more heavy, like combining that tone with Suffocation's tone on Souls to Deny. I love this thing. And while it sounds like those bands, it also helps to find your own sound. Very well made, very good sounding. Very clear and A LOT of string definition. THis thing blew me away.

My setup: NJ Beast w/ Bill Lawrence humbuckers, Metalizer, Bad Horsie II or Dunlop Dime from Hell, Peavy Valveking (clean channel, all eq dimed, vol on 1), MXR Supercomp (off, cleans up my signal a little when bypassed), Peavey MS412 cab.

The settings on the Metalizer are: Vol 12 oclock, Low Dimed, High 3 oclock, Distortion 12 oclock.

                              Definatly check this thing out!
