  • Proud new JSX owner! ...story and pic!

After months of scrutiny, deliberation with my wife, several trips to different stores....yadda yadda...here it is!

When I first played the JSX (full stack and combo) in GC I wasn't that impressed....for some reason. I didn't like the sound I was hearing but my experience was limited due to the other noise in the background, etc. So, I tried several different Mesa's and fell in love with the Single Ch. Rectifier but when I went back to the store to play it again my ears heard something else and I no longer liked it. To make a long story short...after re-playing the JSX half stack at my local GC I fell in love with it...then made a killer deal and drove home with it for $450 less than MF/GC price I can't stop playing now!

BTW, this is by far the best amp I've ever owned. In fact, this is my first half stack...first tube amp...first of anything of its kind. My previous amp (don't laugh) was a Behringer 212 combo...so you can imagine how exciting this is.

Nice rig. Giving serious consideration to a JSX myself, right now. Still want to try a couple of others first, though.

My biggest mistake was not trying out the "presence" and "resonance" controls thoroughly on my first test drive. Those made all the difference in the world. I also had the mindset (from using a cheap amp for so long) that the gain had to be turned all the way up to get my desired amount of distortion so at first I thought it sounded a bit fuzzy for my taste. The magic happened when I turned the gain down a bit to between 5-7 then this thing came to life for me! Good luck on your venture!

Very cool. I just got my JSX about 2 weeks ago and I'm still learning all about it. The LOVE the FX loop. This amp really brings out the character of each guitar I hook up to it. I'm still working on the lead channel to get a little different voicing than the crunch channel. Tonight I get to try it out with my band and I guess that will be the true test.

          anyway, congrats!

Congrats! I still have mine for sale, but it's not going to kill me to keep it either. Fantastic amp at any price. Consider putting 6L6s in there though, I bet you'll like it even more then.

If I put 6L6's in it what will be the result? I've read that a lot of people here do that. Is this something I can do or do I need to take it in for that?

Well, knowing Pete, the voices of both EL34 and 6L6 , and the awesome sound of that amp..

I would say that is very sound advice..pun intended..

                  Congrats, that's a GREAT amp!!

Tighter lows, less mids, better highs, more fendery clean and in my opinion a much more 'metal' gain channel. You can do it, just replace the EL34s with 6L6s and be sure the switch is set. You can use a meter to bias your amp if you want, but it should be ok without having to do that.

Oh..that tube swap would give you a warmer tone with less mids and a MUCH tighter and better bottom end..trust me that amp has enough mids and low end already..the 6L6 will just make that much better.

Play with it for a while..enjoy it..I played one with EL34's and it sounded cool at moderate levels..though those tubes seem to compress too much with high gain amps at high volume levels..

I don't know why the makers of high gain tube amps that rely on mostly preamp distortion ..still use the tubes they did with old Marshalls you had to crank to get any dirt from them..I don't get it really.

                        Ok, I will consider it...thanks.

The switch is located behind the main grille right? So, I have to reach in from the back to flip a switch?

Thanks for the info...again, this is all new territory for me

The JSX is no joke. I love mine. For the first time in a LONG time I have an amp that I have zero complaints about or wished it had more of something.

                              Congrats on the new amp!
