Anyone else modded their own pedals?

As a point of nitpicking, I paid $500 for a 100-page Dealer Graphics Album from Ebay a few years ago. That was well over twice what they were normally selling for. Turned out to be one of the lesser-dealer copies - the pics were photocopies of photocopies (and in some cases, of photocopies) of actual photographs and photographs of photographs!

I got tired of never being able to find scans of these mystical books online, and only seeing bits and pieces and little ghey thumbnails whenever someone did post one, so I took one for the team by bidding $500+ for it when it popped up.

I scanned them all and posted them on my site, then sold the book for about $200 on Ebay.

Like I said, the pics were pretty much crap to begin with, so the scans are enlarged crap, but the community has a free information resource that was previously not provided by those who felt they should get something for their "investment".

As for people taking free information and making a buck off of it, that's the other guy's fault. This is the Information Age, and there is a wealth of info on the Internet for those who are willing to look it up, and 1000 scams for those who are not.

I asked a dozen times about the GCB-95 mods and all I get is a price quote.

Ask John (Jgcable). He does killer GCB-95 mods! I had two, kept one, sold the other to Pete.

there's some crybaby mods. 99% of the super secret mod stuff is available online. I did some things to pedals that I came up with and never saw before I did it, so I'm obviously not going to give that out... but there is a TON of free pedal modding info on the web: you just have to dig for it. Most of the guys charging for pedal mods dug em up on the web, played around a bit and became pedal modders. Nothing wrong with that.

Also, the books that people buy tend to simplify the mods and not give you the big picture. It's paint by numbers which is cool, there are amp mods like that also.

Oh, BTW, you can use a lot of the crybaby mods on the bad horsie II wahs - I used them as a baseline and experimented a bit, and ended up with one that sounded kickass. You just have to be able to trace a schematic and tell what resistor is doing what, so to speak. The bad horsie has more in common with a crybaby than you'd think!

Thanks Pete. I did find a few pages online that discuss the GCB-95 mods after my last post. I admit I hadn't looked earnestly for them before this thread, but always meant to.

I guess I was holding out false hope that someone would have posted them here without prodding.

All sites are freely accessible - no membership required to view and no purchase required to get in the "back room" like the guy selling the book.

If I'm measuring it right, the resistor next to the inductor on mine is 70+K already, so it's either got the vocal mod already or I'm doing something wrong with the meter

And it doesn't appear my board has a Rev #. I bought it locally several years ago (actually, traded all my old BOSS pedals for it).

by the way, i found the mods on various websites, and even have found info on doing Keeley mods, etc. in all honesty i dont see why people would pay someone a whole ton of money to mod a pedal like the SD-1 or a Tube Screamer. if you can do some soldering and are careful its really simple and easy (and CHEAP!) to do. i got the pedal for 20 bucks, and thought it sounded ok, but knew it wasnt all it could be. so i searched for info on modding and found it and i like what i did to the pedal. and ill do it again! LOL
