gain is overrated, over used and overly abused. it takes a while for people to figure out that more isn't always better

gain was something that was pretty much naturally balanced moreso in the 'old' days..pickups weren't necessarily hot on 60's-70's guitars and Marshalls could only achieve so much gain.
