I no longer like EMGs like I used to. My tone preferences changed, and now passives fit the bill better for me. Diversity is good though.

What I do like about EMGs is this: Quiet (buzz free) high output pickups. Their technical benefits are what really makes them great, IMO.

Cheaper compared to what? When I think cheaper i think peavey, B52, crate etc... Actualy Peavey's are starting to get up in price too. Mesa's arent exactly "cheaper" amps though, not even close.

Cheaper yeah if you are comparing to Diezel and Bogner and other speciality amps. But probaly roughly around 5% or less of the guitar playing population plays those super high price amps and are out of grasp of most guitarists.

Ask alot of musicians and you will see how they wish they could afford a mesa.

And it is also a known factor that you do not like mesa's because you cant dial them in to your liking, so anyone can read between the lines. With knowing your feelings on mesa's I would never judge your tone advice on a pickup through a mesa amp.

And obvious you did not play mesa's enough if you cant tell the difference of pickups in certain guitars etc.. Because like i said mesa's are very picky when it comes to pickups.

And yes i can comment, because I may not have played your pre-amp, I have played many many amps and owned many many amps. Anything from bogners, to mesa's, to marshalls, to peaveys, diezels, soldano's, Dr Z's, Laney, Engl's, splawns, VHT's, crates, randalls and probaly some I cant even think of.

And with owning and playing all them, i would never use the word cheap or cheaper when mentioning mesa.

Now here is a little insight for you, the way you worded your sentence people will naturaly think you mean it is a cheaply made amp. You grouped it with Peavey's, which are well built, but the build quality is not close to mesa. You also lumped it with Marshalls who's build quality has gone down the drain after the JCM800's and gotten even worse with the 2000 series.

And yes, something you shouldn't comment about. At least I've played, touched, and gasp... owned MESA's...

cleveland i also should say. i know you know your gear as well, but i just know you and both horns dont really care for mesa. And I guess because this is a jackson board most people on this board are older and much prefer voicings like marshall and mesa only gets a little love.

I am not the norm, as I am older and grew up on Marshalls myself, I am still a very modern person when it comes to music as well as old music as well.

When i say i wouldnt trust your opinion on tone going through a mesa, it is nothign disrespectfull really, just more of i wouldnt expect someone to take my advice on tone through say a Peavey XXX which I am not a big fan of.

When i said you most be smoking crack, well that is just a phrase i use all the time, well unless you are smoking crack.

I just like the voicings I like. I'm into mostly new heavy stuff. So, the "I must not be modern" thing doesn't quite include me. I'm definitely not looking for a Marshall sound as I don't like them much either.

I've just owned enough MESA equipment to know I don't like it much. Others sound good playing them, but I don't sound good with them to my ears...

Actually, I have yet to find what really gives me wood in a tone, or I'd own it.

However, IMO, it's silly to argue the minute point you dredged up in my post in what is an EMG thread.

I will say, in the scheme of high end amps, MESA aren't exactly pricey amps. Basically, an upper middle price amp. Soooo... they are a cheaper amp than what I look at generally.

A lot of people assume the active pups are some radically different design under them black covers but...Just a pup with an electrically chargerd magnet to get the output, instead of winding the hell out of them and in turn giving them a ass load of mids.

Fast attack...If thats what you like
Actually they have a preamp - it would be a lot like having a boost pedal built into your amp.

I run an EMG PA-2 with all mine, it is a nice wide frequency and clean "boost pedal" right in the guitar...

SOunds psycho, but I may build one into my CAE for use in the 3rd channel. A bit much for the cleans and I hate switching it off on the guitar...
