I recently picked up a Epiphone Valve Junior, and the amp sounds awesome, but I'd like to have a pedal up front that would give me a good hard rock/metal sound. Any suggestions? I would like to keep the cost under $100 since I'm only using it for a practice setup.

I'd say go $10 more... get an AMT. I got the Metalizer... awesome for Suffocation, Nile, and any thrash or death metal band. Also, check out the Du Hast or Extreme III. They're all only $10 or $15 more than you want to spend.
Otherwise, I'd say the Metal Muff. Or, if your into digital pedals (I'm an analog junky), I'd say the DIgitech Grunge."Better to Die Quickly Fighting on Your Feet

Hey Trendkill how is that AMT.. I checked out their website and it sounds pretty brootal.. But it said it's emulating valve distortion and has a built in combo emulator.. Since I already have a valve amp and a 2x12 cab I don't really want to "emulate" anything
My Rivera is awesome for that "classic" heavy metal distortion, I love the cleans and it's loud as f**ck, but it would be cool to have a pedal lying around for brutal death metal riffing.. Any tips? Anyone"This ain't no Arsenio Hall show, destroy something!"

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up picking up an MT2... Surprisingly, it seemed to be able to get alot of different distortion tones, didn't sound mushy, and the parametric EQ was very tweakable. Funny because I couldn't even imagine using one after hearing all the negative comments about it, but I think it will work great in the application I'm using in.
Speaking of the Valve Junior, that little amp kicks some serious ass... especially when you consider the price tag. Right up front, the stock tubes suck. I didn't even bother to keep them. I took them out and threw 'em in the garbage . Right now, I going with a Tung-Sol in the preamp and a EH EL84 for power. Also, I think an external EQ is a must. Unboosted, the amp has a great clean sound if you keep the volume below 9 o'clock. Above that, it starts to break up and give a nice, sustaining over drive, especially with the Bad Monkey boosting it. It is loud too! I tried it through my Boogie Traditional cab w/V30's and my Recto 2x12 w/V30/CL80. I think it likes the 2x12 best. I sat there for about two hours last night playing blues licks with my Strat. I'm hoping the distortion pedal with allow me to have some metal mayhem going on as well. Hope so... Very cool amp for $100, and it allows me to keep my JSX/Rocktron Xpression/JSX cab at the practice space.

I would say get a RAT. I put one in front of my vibrochamp and it makes that lil bastard sing at bedroom levels. Crunch/Fuzz goodness and articulation. Buy a used one and try it, worst thing that could happen is you break even on resale.
I don't care for the MT-2 no matter what I do, same for the DS-1. The MXR Distortion+ is good, but the RAT is it.
I am not up on the Ubermetal or AMT. Didn't like the Grunge.
