  • Rockman...?? What is it?

I was reading articles about Tom Scholtz in the band Boston and it mentioned several times he used Rockman exclusively for recording.

What is it and what are they talking about?

It's a headphone preamp he designed and built the size of the old Sony Walkman. He later marketed and sold the device in 2 forms, a guitar and bass model. Later products included, rack mount models and power amps. I have a Rockman for guitar and also the Rockman for bass. Very Boston sounding devices at no surprise!

An interesting fact is that Tom Scholtz has a MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He used to work at Polaroid on electromechanical devices, so this lends to his talent in inventing and building the Rockman products.

I had been reading a lot on the band after Brads suicide and came across a lot of history with the band. Tommy has a pretty impressive record.

I still have a guitar Rockman and powersupply that is in perfect condition and working order. I think that it is almost 20 years old?

                The stuff is cool!

I always wanted one back in the day. I played through a friend's a few times, then finally bought one from a JCFer last year.

I figured out how to dupe the sound in my MP1/TSR12 rack setup and then sold the Rockman

                            Wouldn't mind having an XP-100
