how to ship a tube amp?

OK, who has done it and what steps need to be taken to say that you've done everything possible to help it arrive undamaged.

I guess I'm spefically wondering if the tubes need to be removed before shipping. Do manufacturers ship heads or combos to shops with all the tubes installed?

Manufacturers might, but you as an individual should not. It takes 2 minutes to pull the tubes out and cover them in bubble wrap
