Any Other Laney AOR Users Around Here?

Finally got my hands on another Laney AOR head, yesterday. 50 watter. I'm really digging this thing. Any AOR guys here, and if so, what tubes are you running, and in what spots?

I was using an AOR 100 before I picked up my THD Univalve. I had a Telefunken ECC83 in V1, Phillips ECC83s in v2 and 4 and a Sylvania 12AX7 with balanced triodes in v4. I tried a number of different output tubes, with my favorites by far being the Svetlana EL34s.

I have a 50 w/a cascading preamp. I use Svetlanas too.. the brown base ones or WingC EL34's. Preamp tubes vary.. I forget what I have in there now. Probably some Jan and Valvo mix. I have a 100w w/o the cascading preamp thats modded too. Really good amps for the buck.

Looks like I won't be getting one of those Telefunkens. Tube Depot's got them listed for $160! Yikes!

EI long plates are decent tubes for the money. Course .. you have all the EH russian clones of euro tubes too as well as the Tung Sol's. I've heard some of the 9th Gen chinese tubes work well in some slots too in these amps. If I were to buy older tubes.. I think older Sylvania's are still a good buy. I like the ones that come in yellow and black boxes. Also the green or red print 12Ax7's too.

In that amp I would probably look into the EH6CA7.. a big bottle EL34 replica especially if I like a larger bottle sound like a 6550 or 6L6.

Yeah, I scored that tube for a smokin' deal. Oddly enough, my THD doesn't like it as much as the Laney does...

Got any advice for taming down the amount of hiss? This thing gets noisey when I open her up.

I MAY try engaging the gate in my effects unit, and see how that handles things.

Sold the head but, kept the cab. Must an AOR cab is the BEST value in a used 4X12 out there.

I have two 50 watt AORs. I have used them for almost 20 years and they still sound great while gigging. I am getting an UBER next week, so I think I should have everything covered...
