  • Ok...say your me...(a scary thought for many around here!)

And you play 90% of all your axe time in the bedroom. (my talents are
so far, being overlooked by the media!) I have right now...
Marshall DSL-2000 50 wt tube head into a 4x12 Kustom cab with
Celestions, and a Boss GT-8 effects unit.
If your were me...and you had $2200.00 sitting around doing nothing...
which Amp head, or preamp or whatever would you BEST spend this
dough on, if your hero's were Lynch, Howe, EVH? Im shallow, and love
anything aproaching Zakk, Babylon AD, or Autograph tones!
Splawn? Mesa Dual Rec? (got my eye on a mint used Rivera "Bonehead" for $1100 right now) To my ears, its killer. Keep in mind
that i will probably be using the "Clean Channel" as i do now with the
Marshall DSL. Gain at about 9:30. Volume at 4 (choked down thru
the Boss GT) Ive heard the Mesa may be too
much for bedroom volume use? Or is a powerbrake or other attenuator
needed with some of these heads? Oh, and please private message
me, if you know of a reputable seller or dealer who can get me into
a Bogner or Deizel at $2200.00! So if it were your scratch? What to
buy next? Played thru a Charvel CS HRF with Custom 5 pup.
or sometimes the blk/yel EVH ART series axe)

If you play 90% in your bedroom and you already have a half stack... what do you need another high powered tube amp for. Pick up a used modeling combo for around $200.00 and spend the remaining $2000.00 on something that will actually be useful.

                        Heads Of Choice:

Well, if I could find an Engle head of my choosing, that would be my first purchase but I can't afford em. For cleans and down right dirty, I like my Mesa Boogie 2:Fifty. But it's a rack rig head and may not be on your to do list.

                        Preamp:
                        Roctron Prophesy II. Nuff said.

                        Cabs:
Nix the 4x12 and invest into a good 2x12. Birch cabinet, a pair of 8 ohm Celestion 30's, wired w/a stereo mono switch. You'll free up some space, have more pleasing levels for the bedroom, and have PLENTY of loudness to gig out. Plus you can always add another matching 2x12 cab later. Then you're back to 4 speakers again but w/the ability to use/tote one set and leave the other. Two 2x12's separated sounds awesome. This setup gives you a lot of possibilites.

                        Guitar:
Ummm, anything that will stay in tune will sound awesome played through the above. Maybe one guitar of your choosing w/some Seymour Duncan passive pickups in it and another w/EMG's. However, I currently am sporting the Seymour Duncan Heavy Metal Livewire set of actives. Just put em in a couple days ago. I'm lovin em.

Buy another guitar, you probably need another one, everyone does!!
I think maybe a good modeler wouldn't be a bad idea as was said. Some have class tones for bedroom levels. Theres no real shame in no tubes anymore.

jgcable & toejam = thread killer! Can't we just dream and drool a for a while over gear we can't afford?

Besides, that's way too practical and makes WAY too much sense. (umm, did i just make another redundant statement? if you look up redundant in the dictionary it says "see redundant").
