  • Electronics experts - please help.

I have a DOD YJM overdrive pedal. Instead of the standard AC socket, it has a 1/8" socket. I have replaced it with the correct type so that I can use my standard adapter snake, and I want to make sure I have it correct. There were 3 wires going to the original socket. A red wire from the positive side of the battery connector, a green wire to the tip of the 1/8 A/C pin, and a white wire going to the shaft of the A/C pin. The red wire from the battery is wired to a switch inside the socket that disconnects when you insert the plug. I just disconnected it, and put some heat shrink tubing over the end, because I don't plan on using a battery. I then connected the white wire to the outside of the new adapter, and the green wire to the inside pin.

    Does that sound correct?

If not, what will happen if I plug it in like this?

Your main issue is maintaining polarity. If you use a 9v adaptor and reverse polarity, then you'll at minimum pop a bunch of capacitors unless the pedal has some diode protection. As long as your polarity stays correct, then you should be ok.

Is there any way for me to figure out which wire is positive and which is negative?
