2. I was WRONG (sort of)
Okay, it's now 1:38 A.M. and I just got done setting up/playing the Vetta. I am utterly and completely blown away. Seriously.
From the top:
Installed the MidiSport UNO USB-to-MIDO adapter I got at GC when I picked up the Vetta. It just so happens that this is the one that Line 6 recommends. Windows bluescreened. So I reboot. Healthy Windows, Vetta doesn't appear. I'll spare you the boring tech story; got updated driver from MidiSport's website. Fixed.
Ran Line 6 Monkey again and updated to Version 2.5 software. Patches were slow to change, so I followed their recommendation and did a factory reset (had no user presets yet at this time, so who cares?). Fixed.
Tweaked the Vetta for a couple of hours. Found the Modern Hi-Gain (both flavors), adjusted, they kicked ass! Saved a few presets; dry, with delay, with pitch shift, etc.... One combo I really like is SLO 100 into Line 6 4x12 combined with SLO 100 into 1x6. Great mix there.
Added the line out to the 4x12, tweaked panning and so on. Very nice! It has an excellent "wail" factor. The Marshall does, too, but hiss is ridiculous with the inline EQ.
Definitely a tweakers amp, BUT....it's the kind of tweaking I enjoy. I think what turned me off to it in the store is that the factory presets aren't to my liking at all, or at least most of them. And if I may be so arrogant, I firmly believe that I can do a better setup job on most of those sounds that the factory tries to emulate. I'm sure you guys could, too. I was also surprised to find that you can NAME your presets! Most of you are probably going, "Duh! to that, but I honestly didn't know. I'm used to Line 6 user presets just being numbered.
Anyway, consider me a Vetta convert. I would have been earlier if I had understood how to use the amp when I tried it in the store, but it's so radically different from the POD and Flextone that I didn't know where to start.
Anyway, I now agree with you Vetta enthusiasts. It's not that I disagreed with you before. It's just that I needed to see for myself and I couldn't do that until I actually bought the amp and upgraded it. So yeah, once I build a decent collection of patches, maybe we can swap a few around.Member - National Sarcasm Society

You're about to hate me even more; I'm probably going to trade the Flextone II I just got off E-Bay against a Longboard.
But again, thanks a ton for your help.

Stereo has always been out there, bro! No new ground breaking there. I had to get away from it due to space constraints, and while it was cool, it just wasn't a necessity for me. Immense is cool, but playing alone to a stereo...well, let's just say that since I was the only who cared, the thrill just wasn't there any more. Most non-guitarists don't really care (my wife), so it's coolness factor drops a bit.
I get decent stereo effects from my 4x12, so I'm still pretty happy. It's not necessary, but it is fun.
I have a much larger audience! The wife, and 2 dogs! But i see your
point.. but its fun anyway. I dont have the time anymore to gig, or
think about playing out, so im just going to have to make me "ears" happy.

Anyway. I made a patch with my vetta combo that has been upgraded to a vetta II. I built it side by side my slo. It is pretty damn close. I am using the criminal (5150 amp) and the slo to get it. I don't think it will ever sound exactly like the slo but it is close enough for my tastes. The thing i wish i could get is the tube sag... I used to use the slo all the time and then got into the flextone. I really had to force myself not to play the soldano. I felt a slight delay playing the modeler amp and needed to get used to it. I have now so I can go back and forth between the two with no problems. Honestly, I think I might sell the SLO now. I am a diehard owner of the Soldano and have had a few of the products including 2 SLO's at the same time. The patch I made to my ears sounds really close but it lacks some of the definition and clarity. I think I can get used to that so.... Might be time to sell the only amp I swore I would never sell.
