  • amp losing volume

ive got a 1984 laney line backer 50w solid state amp. tbh its rubbish. but ive had it since I was about 16 (12 years) and im kind of attached. now the volume keeps dropping. i think its a capacitor that's dead but b4 I start replacing them I was looking for a second opinion.

not my amp but thats what it looks like. ive gota mesa rack system as well but i like this for my living room.

Does it have an effects loop in the back? If it does, bridge the in and out with a short cord, like you'd use between effects.

If that takes away the volume drop, then the switches in your effects loop jacks are dirty and/or stuck. Spray some contact cleaner into them, then plug and unplug a cord into each jack several times to break them free.

Obviously do the cleaning while the amp is off.

Let me know if that helps. If it does, thank Pete (Twisteramps); he told me that years ago when my Valvestate 8040 was doing the same thing!
