25w greenbacks or 12-65 celestions

what would you choose in a marshall 4x12 to replace the shot g75t's?

You should do what I did, get both. One of my cabs is 2 greenbacks and 2 v30s. Best of both worlds, super tight sounding with the greenbacks, but you get that obnoxious low end with the v30s, too.

i ran the gt75s with vin 30s for a little while. it was ok... but didn't make me cream my pants.

I run greenbacks with my 5150 and they sound great.
however with my 7 string the break up to quick on the low bass response
of the low B string, so now I'm looking for a 4X12 cab with V30's.
What are you playing and how low are you tuning?
and what kind of head are you using? 6L6's heads love V30's,
EL34 heads love Greenbacks.

i read that the 12-65's are supposed to be a higher powered version of the greenbacks. but i've never heard them and i've never heard either with me playing through them.

I had 65's in my White anniv Marshall cab (1982 I think??)
They sounded great to my ears..

I've seen a lot of G12-65 love on a Marshall site (Plexipalace?). Personally I see nothing wrong with the G12-75's, and that's what people used in the 80's, so why fight it?

If I made a mixed cab, it would be V30's and G12-H30's(?).

I would replace your shot 75's with new ones. I love those speakers. They are so IN YOUR FACE!!

This is my opinion from listening to quite a few guitar speakers in Marshall cabinets. If you are running a rack with high end amps and some modeling, I would stick with the 75 watters. With processed sound you will get the whole spectrum of sound. If you are running a head, some pedals and maybe a rack delay or so, you could go with the lower wattage speakers. An example would be, a Plexi head or 5150 with V30's or Greenbacks.

If it were me I'd go with the G12-65s without hesitation. I have two '79 Marshall 4x12s with those speakers and they've been my go to cabs for a couple of decades. I've gone through a couple of dozen amps in that time, but stuck with one of those cabs the entire time (the other is a bit newer to me).

Ya know, I have yet to find a Celestion I really like. To the point of hating them.

I have 75s, and don't like them. Nice low end tightness, but too much high end sizzle or "hish". A very brash sounding speaker if you have modern equipment that is capable of generating the offending freqs. You EQ them out, and the speaker loses all life...

The greenbacks I have, are great at low volume, but don't have sufficient bass response. And when pushed awhile, you can hear them start to break up more and more as they get hot. Can't believe K can use a 5150 through them at any higher volume, wow... Used them live with my 5150s ONCE... scared me I was gona kill them.

30's, I never liked much. A bit of honk there I don't like. But it the right cab, they sound "ok". More organic sounding, but still sorta a looser low end. They do ditch some of the brashness of the 75s tho.

Not sure what I think of the 80's 70's and 65's... Havent played them long enough to dial them to the point of defaming them or being happy either. If they grabbed me that much, I'd own them.

So far, if I were to by speakers, I'd look at the stupid expensive and terribly heavy EVM12L. Hands down, there is no comparision to any other Celestion. They give it all. Including a hernia... Sucks...
