  • MTS recto module mod clips

So I went home sick yesterday (sinuses/allergies are killing me!) and decided to mod my Recto module for my Randall RM4 and RM100 head. Here's some quick and dirty clips below. Basically the mod I performed was a bass control switch that makes the module tighter or looser (three different steps) and a 'red to orange' switch that mimics the orange channel. I went through a two channel recto schematic and while it can't be exactly the same, did do many of the same mods for the difference between the channels.

'orange' setting, full bass at first, second time I play the verse riff for the dokken song I cut it to .0022:

Exact same settings as above, just flicked the 'orange/red' switch to red:

I get more note 'splatter' and a thicker/softer feel doing leads with the orange setting.

Probably going to mod it a bit further, but I think I'm on the right path.

The general tone is pretty cool on the upper registers.

But (I guess like I sound when I play MESA's), that low E chug just isn't edgy (crunchy?) or tight enough for my tastes.

I do like the second one better.

    Cool work man.

Thanks. I know what you mean - the mids and upper mids have that throaty growl, but the low end just doesn't have clarity. I modded the other module with orange drop caps instead of the stock xicons - haven't done that yet to the recto, should make quite a difference.

The second one is much better than the first. The first is too flubby.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Second one is definitely better. The first one sounds a little too fuzzy.

Hm, does it sound like a 'real' recto though? Keep the comments coming, thanks guys.

It's buzzy and flubby? Then of course it sounds like a recto.

Sounds like a recorded Recto to me Pete.

The second half of the second clip sounds way too happy for someone who was supposedly sick - truant!

It sounds close to a 3 ch. recto. Definitely doesn't sound like either of my 2 ch. ones.

It must be close - because I don't like it the same way I don't like the real thing!

The second one is better BTW.
