G-Major users - How are you set up?

Hi guys - I just got my G-Major in today. I was interested in how everyone has theirs set up.

I will be using mine in the loop of my Mesas Rectoverb head. A friend uses his G-Force as the "master volume" for his Splawn head, so I guess he is basically keeping his loop "ON" all the time, and uses the G-Force as a master volume. (Sorry for the redundancy...). He said then you can push the amp a little harder but you use the G-Force to knock down the volume.

I'm not sure what the easiest way to do this will be (I hear the manual sucks - we'll see...). Mine also came with a G-Minor and a Boss FS-5U footswitch, so I'm not quite sure what I'll do with those either yet (at least the Boss), but the G-Minor is supposed to be GREAT to use with the G-Major.

Any tips/input appreciated.

I use mine in the loop of my Marshall JVM. The G-Major is connected to the JVM via MIDI, so that when I change channels on the JVM, it changes the patch on the G-Major. I'm using a MFC5 MIDI pedal from http://www.axess-electronics.com. Works great!

Mine's in the loop of my 6505, but I've got the unit changing the channel on my amp via a midi controller. I can tailor patches to either clean or not that way.

I have mine in the loop..it's the only thing I use with the Uberschall.

I love it...The noise gate is awesome, as is the built-in tuner..and The FX ain't bad either.

Its tired in my eyes, but maybe gear porn for others.
Edit: ITs wired JMp1 stereo out, into g-major stereo out, into the bbe stereo out, to the el84 power amp stereo out to the cab.
Any of you guys with a jmp use the fx loop? I could not get it to sound as good as this set up.

Oh you can use the tc to switch your heads channels. You need a trs cord for it though. my friend has his switching his meas dual rectifier, but the loop is funny on it. it has to be 100 % on the knob on the loop to hear the fx nicely. Its a nice piece of gear just takes a bout a week to figure it out.

This is what I did. play with it for a day. read the whole manual. play with it again with the manual in hand. Read manual some more. and on and on. Oh and dont let your kids use the manual as a coloring book, cut it up and make a pretty guitar card for you.

I have graphics somewhere of my setup with the G-major. I'll dig em up. Basically I use the G through the Common FX loop in a Rockmaster. Channel switching & patch changes are done via 1/4 cable from G to RM, using a RFX midi board. If you've got the latest s/w version it will also come with parametric EQ. I haven't ever activated mine.

I use ony one preset and have On/Off switches for the Gate, Relay switch for another proccessor bypass, Whammy (for one expression pedal, Delay, Flange, and Wah (which is a bitch to get to sound decent) controlled by my Ground Control Pro. On occasion I turn it on and it makes this weird squealing sound, but I discovered it was the Pitch Shifting FX block on

My Mesa has a parallel loop (it seems everyone talk about series loops - cripes!!! I'm such a MIDIOT...). Any insight here?

Does anyone use this with the G-Minor?

I bought the JMP-1/ JFX-1 and 5881 loaded 9200 monoblock in '96..I run a BBE 422 ..stereo into four Marshall 1960B straight cabs..

I ran this rig for 11 years and still happy as ever with it. I can't use any other rack gear or stomps including the G Major..to get the tone I do. The JFX-1 sounds much better with the Marshall than the G Major..weird, it's a package deal...I guess.

I use the G major with the Uber to keep all the noise in control..especially for the quick stop palm muted shit...I have it set on hard. I couldn't get by without the gate...not at all!

The Marshall is much more sedate than the Uber. I can get by without a noise gate at very loud volume levels..it's a pretty quiet rig. The Marshall is more lead friendly with pinch harmonics, divebombs and etc...and has a more "lively" lead tone.

The G Major is excellent in high gain applications..especially if your going for modern and brutal metal tones. The more gain you have, the more noise...such would be the case with the Uber, 5150, Recto, Framus and Deizel...ect.

When I was going for VH / 80's metal tones..I didn't run or need a gate..just various fx units that sounded good with my old rigs (various JCM 800's mostly) including Lexicon, Digitech, Chandler, even a old Bell digital Echo..that thing sounded great..I tried a couple different Rocktron hush units, but never really liked them.

As far as the G Major..it's more than I need. I'm such a moron when it comes to programming shit...but the G Major is pretty easy to figure out. The manual is essential and important to read..it'll walk you thru whatever it is your trying to do. Be it adjusting the noise gate, delays, chorus, verbs..or just as a lead boost with or without pitch effects.

I owned it for some time and I'm still playing with it on occasion..messing with the parametric..you could drive yourself nuts just running thru that section...

I keep it super basic and simple, I don't channel switch at all..I have a Rythm patch that is almost dry..a lead patch that is boosted with a little more delay set to 366 ms .."Cathedral" time..another lead patch with the same boost but with an octaver..like Mike Amott uses...that sounds just like my old brown Boss pedal. You also can get silly Dragonforce "chipmunk" sounds too..that I'm playing around with as we speak...but I want it more suddle, so you can actually hear what I'm playing.

I use a total of 4 patches (so far)..all with the noise gate set pretty heavily...which makes the G major necessesary with my Bogner because I keep the gain maxed at all times. I use my guitar's volume knob if I want to clean things up.

Cleveland John programmed the G Major when I just got it. But I had to start from scratch when I upgraded the preamp tubes (tung sols) in my amp..forcing me to actually learn how to use it..which wasn't bad.

Still need a switcher tho..I'll get one evetually. I don't plan on playing out anytime soon, but it's programmed in case I do.

I've owned better sounding delays..but the G Major is a swiss army knife. It does much more than I'll ever need and it does it very well!

Oh Yeah ..I have the master volume of Bogner all the way up..and I use the G Major output as my main master volume control..It sounds best to me that way.

I keep the input all the way counter clockwise and use the amp's channel volume knob to adjust that...where it just barely clips into the red..when you hit the strings really hard.

BTW..still prettyy baked.

For your Mesa you're going to have to do what a previous poster said he did, have the loop level on 100% otherwise you'll have to edit every preset's effects mix levels up higher as you'll barely hear any effect out of your amp otherwise.
