I kinda like to support USA made products if I can of course
That leaves Marshall off your list.
If you want a newer amp that nails those old JCM 800 tones very well, try the Mesa Stiletto. I regret selling mine.
I appreciate the help fellas Yes, it looks like a 2203/04 or a 2210/05 for me one of these days. The re-issue 2203 looks just like the originals except for the transformers, which I believe the originals were Dagnal and not sure what they are using now? I also think the re-issues are a little overpriced, but I would probably buy used if I were to go that route. Now, as for the JCM 800`s, should I get the EL34 version or 6550 version like some of the old ones for the tone I am after? Also, when I say old Thrash is my favorite, I am also saying speed metal also, which are so close in tone.
Jack
its a matter of taste but I prefer the balls of 6550's myself. I have an 83 JCM800 2203 w/6550's and with Boss Super Overdriver in front you'll be in slayer heaven...err or hell
i have em both, jcm800 2210 and 5150. the 5150 is the better amp imho. not quite as singing when playing leads, but very versatile as far as heavy tones are concerned.
however, if you want a mid 80s thrash tone and just that, you can get by with the 2210/2203.....i personally thing the 5150 comes close to that tone (keep the mids high, cut some of the lows and be easy on the gain, especially when boosting the crunch channel with an overdrive) but at the same time covers everything up to modern thrash and death metal tones.
If you're going for old thrash sound you have to go with the 50 watt JCM800 and you have to do the Entombed setting ie all knobs on 10.
Except have the mid set to 0.
Stick a Boss DS1 Distortion pedal in there, get your stretch jeans on, big white basketball boots, then you are fit to Thrash Till Death!!!!
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!
I was going to say boosted JCM 800 is the obvious choice, but you're shooting yourself in the foot if you limit yourself to USA made.
If you change your mind, you should see if you can find a Laney AOR50. They can be had for $300-400, and are a great alternative to paying for a Marshall.
However, since you're going USA, then I'm going to make a likely unpopular suggestion. Crate Stealth, or Blue Voodoo, will both do 80's thrash extremely well if you dial them in properly.
Another option, is the Peavey VTM or Butcher. They were pretty much modeled after the 800, so they would cover the sound you're looking for, and these can also be found on the cheap.
OK, I'm gonna clue you in what Blind Melon Belly told me a long time agoes...about "tone"
He says to me .."Willy, somtimes you gotta put yer mouth where yo dick should go, and sometimes you gotta put yer dick where yo mouth should go"..
..and that made so much sense..at the time.

Best (IMHO) thrash metal band ever and one of the true original bands in the genre. Of course Jackson devoted too... What I would go after if that´s the tone you´re after. Make sure you´re on Seymour Duncans too and no EMG crap..
