  • Dr.Z Attenuator

    Hey Guys,

I was wondering if any of you have any experience with Dr. Z's Airbrake attenuator? I have a Fender Hotrod Deluxe Amp and wanted to get some advice on ensuring this unit is working properly. I am able to get the volume on the amp to drop considerably using the unit by adjusting the settings. However, there is a knob to do some fine tuning and I am not noticing it do much in terms of making minimal adjustments. I only really notice it when set on the quietest level, but not really anywhere else. Is this common/normal? If anyone has any idea why this might be happening, please let me know. I'm open to suggestions.

    Thanks again

The Bedroom knob only works on 4, which is also the bedroom level, so yeah it's working well.

By the way, I liked the Airbrake a lot, but I just sold mine and got a BadCat Leash, which kicks the living hell out of all other attenuators.

It's a brand new product. It's the most transparent attenuator I ever heard. It beats everything else I've ever tried. Retains the highs, retains the low end thump.

The only drawback is the fan which has to be turned on when you play for a long, long time. If you're in the bedroom, you can hear it. At a gig, it should be no problem. It solves the hotplate issue though. You can't fry an egg on the leash.

Open a Dr. Z Air Brake - it's basically a couple large ceramic resistors and two rheostats. Dr. Z just copped the Trainwreck attenuator. A coworker built one for $45 getting his parts from an overpriced local electronics shop. They sound fine but the Hotplate is better.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

I have an Airbrake and have been happy with it for a couple of years.
But the BadCat Leash is REALLY getting my attention.

How many watts is the amp you're using with The Leash?

50 watts. But they say it can handle 100 watts.

Got the Leash last week. I'm impressed. Best I've tried, and so transaparent I won't be trying any others.
