  • Back up amp head

I sold my back up to our other guitarist. Now I need another one. I play a Crate BV120, I only wanna spend a few hundred on a back up. Brand really not important, SS is OK. We play metal, kinda Lamb of God-ish, Pantera-ish. I know I can always get a decent Crate for a backup, but wanna see what other options there are that I might not think about.
thanks in advance for your input.

Depending on what exactly " a few hundred " is, I would suggest a second hand 5150, you'll have to shop around a little though to snag one at a good price.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Sorry bro, a "few" hundred is 3 to 4 hundred bucks. Max. Thanks for your time.

Maybe a Marshall 3203? That's what I'm hoping to snag, in a few months.

There are alot of choices for 3-400.

              Randall
              Laney
              Carvin MTS3200, X100B
              Marshall 8100
              Peavey Ultra
              Fender RocPro100

Since you like your BV120 so much why don't you get a BV60 as a backup.

+1. All those are good choices, and a friend of mine picked up a BV60 112 combo at a pawn shop recently for $100! Nothing wrong with it but it being dusty, and all the pawn guy knew was that Crates are cheap!
                  Ron is the MAN!!!!

How about a POD XT-Live? Then you can use the effects if ya want and if you blow up your head you can go direct with it

i'd say marshall valvestate 8100. cheap, reliable, and sounds pretty good (there's a reason why chuck schuldinger used them)

Any of the original Marshall Valvestate 8100 or 8200 series.
                        Fender RocPro 1000.
                        Crate BV60.

Few hundred bucks backup? What do you need feature-wise? If it's really just an 'oh shit' backup, I'd get a Crate Powerblock since it's loud, sounds ok, and is really small. Carrying around two amp heads is a real pain in the ass imho... I tote enough gear to gigs already, I don't want to have to duplicate my entire rig. Another idea too would be a modelling pedal like the floorpod and use a powerblock as a power amp.

Can't go wrong with a Laney AOR, but it's gonna cost ya about $400, maybe more.

You can also look at the Laney Linebacker. I had a PL100 and it was pretty kick ass.
