Boss RC-2 Loop station

Anyone's used this? Basically, I want to start off playing with a rhythm pattern, record it (when I depress the pedal) and have it looping in the background so I can play lead over it. Can it be done? I want to put this in the fx loop of the GT8. is the pedal a tone sucker when its playing?

I've played the bigger version (RC-20?) in Guitar Center before and it worked pretty well for what it is. The only problem (which you will avoid mostly by putting it in the FX loop) is you had to have the same tone for all of your tracks.
