No, my last name's Rafferty and everyone calls me Raf. I like the gain I have on both amps when a stomp is in front. So I want that sound without a stomp.

So basically you love your tone but hate the switching from clean to distorted and back ? If i were you i would look into midi switching. There are small loopers and midi switchers out there so you can switch your stomp box in and out, and also switch amps, effect units and much more.
Look at http://www.axess-electronics.com/ or http://www.nobels.com/en/index.htm
Could be the easier route than buying a complete new amp.

Sean, I really like Jon Schaffer's (Iced Earth) clean and dirty tone. In the Barlow years he used a Larry head w/ BBE 422 in the loop and A/B that with a Roland Jazz Chorus 2 X 12" combo for clean.
When Ripper joined he dumped that for a Uberschall and uses it for both duties. I always like his heavy tone and asked him how does the Uberschall compare to the Larry. He blurted loudly "No Comparison!!!".
His tone is heavier, and his cleans sound just fine. He switches back and forth in alot of his songs. I always run the gain all the way up with the Uber. That's the only way I get it to really "Growl". I can play it just as good with the gain backed off alot. But after playing this thing for over 5 1/2 years it sounds best with gain full up..at least when I play it anywhoo.
Putting a stomp in front of a Uberschall is like putting Gary Cherone back in Van Halen...why?
The Framus is more expensive than the Bogner right??"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

The SLO100 is a awesome amp. Sean isn't happy with his Cobra or 5150 without a stomp in the front.
what makes anyone even suggest an amp that does The Scorpions "Blackout" and classic VH tone at the heaviest?? If that was the case I would advise Sean to investigate a VHT..he wants more saturated gain and a nice clean!!
A SLO or VHT would be a great choice for Dreamland Rebel for his tone in Widow...IMO!!!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

I just got the 5 option SLO100 last night, hot right from Mike Soldano's shop. and I'll do a write up. My search for the ultimate tube amp is over. I had black face, Marshall, Hot Rod Marshall, 5150, Uber and Mesa sounds coming from the amp using just one Marshall 1960B cab with 25W Greenbacks. Still tweaking as I have other cabs and various speakers to experiment with! The 5 options are Depth, Scoop (Dimartini, SRV), Warren Haynes, Effects Loop By-Pass and 50/100W switch. The ultimate studio amp as well. With the crunch mode on and the depth knob up at 12 o'clock, the cab was spewing sawdust . Anything past 1 o'clock, hold onto your teeth as you will loose them. From Blackface Clean to the Uber, I'm happy.Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. Listen, learn, have fun, draw your own conclusions.

Really, sounds very cool. I always loved the tone of the SLO100. The "5 option" gives it a kick in the ass?

Yeah Bill, I'll do an in depth writeup. I only had about 1-1/2 to 2 hours with it last night. I need to move the head off the cab when I'm in the depth mode. I'm afraid it might vibrate off the top of the cabinet I would love to try this amp with a Mesa oversized cab, but the walls might come down It's amazing what sounds you can get moving the knobs and throwing the switches will do. I literally bought it sight unseen and unheard. I was going off of sound clips and talking to James (Lynn) at www.bluescitymusic.com James is great to talk to and is right there with all the big acts coming through Memphis, TN. He was with Alice in Chains, Slash and others last night. He usually brings in amp demos for the guy's to play on stage. He keeps the amps at a big studio in Memphis. James is a wealth of information. He is a guitarist and a pilot for Fedex and has his own music business at the same time. If he ships stuff to you and if Fedex does something wrong, he will personally take care of any problems. Check him out.

Also i often visit a german tube amp build forum where also the owner of Larry amplification posts (larry amplification is german, didn't know this before joining that forum) and he told that Jon never stopped using his Larry amps as his main amp. After all i don't think Jon does get any money from Larry for saying he plays those amps as Larry amplification is just way to small to afford paying endorsers.

I went on soundclips posted by ol' JCF member Thingman..they sounded great. Better than the ones on the Bogner site IMO. I was fairly new here when there was of buzz about The Uberschall. Clevo-John first mentioned it to me. Then I went to Guitar Center where Ripper's guitarist told me I needed one. That was well before he was with Tim. I needed something to hang with John's VHT/CAE+3, which pushes alot of fucking air. I snaged a 100watt DSL half stack for 1k, the dude just bought it, needed fast dough. John and I worked with that amp for about a week. The only "decent" sound we got from it was running a Korg Hyper distortion in the clean chanel, but it wasn't even close in hanging with him. The gain structure of the dirty channel just sounds "wrong"..it couldn't do VH, that's for sure. John and I gravitate the VH tone as a base, then go from there. At that point the DSL was a mere paper weight that looked alot like a Marshall. So John put it on the bay and dumped it quick. From that deal, I had 150 bucks into a sweet 1960a cab with cover..which I use with the Uber. I didn't get a chance to get intimate with the Bogner. It went straight to John's house for rehearsal, and immediately knew of its coolness. The sound of the Uber with John's CAE/VHT rig was incredible..too bad the local posers didn't get a chance to eat that shit!! It could still happen, ya never know.
Which brings to Flo..Yes, I'm sure as the hair on my back!!! You thought I was going to say balls..ok, those too. The amp Jon toured with was a Uberschall with two Marshall cabs. Ralph Santolla used a SLO100 which he dialed to sound like Larry Tarnowski. Schaffer uses the Bogner for the majority of recording. It's blatant on the new material. Trust me, I KNOW the sound of my wife's voice. Maybe Jon Uber-Hetfield Schaffer wants to keep his tone secrets to himself..reading that article he names everything except the kitchen sink! I met and talked with him in '98, taled to Barlow more. Then spoke briefly with Tim in the band..just to say I have one too..and asked how does it compare to the Larry..
You know who loved me..Jack Frost. That dude really likes to talk amps and metal. He didn't know what a Uberschall was when I got it. His main was an Engl Powerball that he extremely happy with at the time..now he has everyfugginthing. He's a super nice guy, not a technical player ..but he dials in nice tone and can write a metal ditty...that dude has THE connections..he's in so many things!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

Cool, thanks for the infos. Just wondered why he didn't say anything about the Bogner.
You know that i love the Überschall so it's no surprise that Jon likes this amp. I loved every second of the 10 minutes i played one the last time in a music store near me. I just had to stop after 10 minutes or i would have gotten into serious trouble with my wallet.
Everyone should own one or two Überschalls

The SLO-100 with the 5 Mod (Option) is very versatile. I've been playing 42 years and have played just about every amp out there and this is the schnit! Try one you will be amazed. Real world tweaking will get you any sound out there. Your ears are the verification. For example I was able to go from a 60's Fender Twin sound to a Champ, to a Super Reverb. Further tweaking, I was in the Marshall mode, 5150, Mesa Rec, then the Uber with the Depth control. This was in a span of only 2 hours. James is the only 5 mod stocking dealer and Mr. Soldano told me to call him first. James stocks Soldano and Splawn and he has been a boutique dealer nut for years, selling, Badcat, Bogner, Diezel and others. He's down to Soldano and Splawn and has Soldano building him a small combo signature amp (for portability).
The 5 option will cost you though. It's very expensive, but well worth it IMO.Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. Listen, learn, have fun, draw your own conclusions.
