I have a Crate BV 1x12 combo NMV. Pretty good amp for the dough. Punch that baby in the preamp with a SD1= metal heaven.

The BV series is indeed very cool!

I've been shopping for a good head for a long time, but the performance of this rig always keeps me mostly satisfied. So I bide my time...

Guitar to Lexicon MPX G2, to input of Mesa Nomad 55 4x10 combo, out its effects loop to Lexicon for more effects. I feed the left output of the MPX G2 back to the Nomad and the right to a modded Peavey Classic 30 head with a custom ported 1x12.

It cuts, the clean is great, and has 2 versatile gain channels that cover a lot of ground. It is however easy to screw up, tonewise and functionally - some settings will put strain on the preamp tubes and others won't pass signal - frankly, it's easy to see why they were discontinued. But when it's dialed in, good times

Sunn Model T full stack. I mostly just plug straight into the head but sometimes it's fun to use the gain on the head and throw a fuzz pedal or distortion pedal on it too, to make it really feedbacky and gnarly.

I never played a Lexicon MPX G2 but i was always impressed by the fact you could use this effect box before the preamp and at the same time in the effect loop. That's just a very cool concept for a effect unit and frankly i still am surprised no other unit is doing this besides the G2 (at least no unit i know of).

If that's anything like the 4-cable-method used on the GT-8, the Boss GT-8 can do that. Guitar -> gt-8 -> Your amp -> preamp out -> gt-8 for effects and such -> cab. You can even use the gt-8's cab simulations if you dont have a cab and play through headphones.

I think line6 has caught up with GT-8 on this as well. If what I'm talking about is right, then there are several effect units in the market that can do what you're talking about.
