I had a TSL60 too. I thought it was a fine amp. I do think the DSL100 sounds better though. The TSL60 was a little muddy and a little thin. Still.. a damn fine amp for what you can get one for used. I have had JCM800's, 900's 2210's, Plexi's, modded 800's, and an SLX. Out of all of them.. I like the stock DSL100 the best. My favorite clean channel out of all of them is absolutely the JCM900.
Thin and muddy - a quad of JJ tubes biased correctly and a matched phase invertor tube took care of this. Took a bit more time to find a combination of the preamp tubes that sounded 'right', by this I mean the gain structure I like - initial distortion and attach, with mild compression and clean after for the longer notes: 1 - telefunken, 2 and 3 are phillips.
What do I like about it? I don't have to use pedals, and have exact pushed JCM800 sound on the amber channel, with a decent marshal-style lead on the red. This comes from somebody who played through a 2504 JCM800 for 12 years prior to the TSL. Oh yeas, and it is hand-signed my Jim Marshal on the grell So there you go.

Thanks for the info. I don't doubt at all that the TSL can be tweaked to get a good sound. It was very close to sounding really good to my ears bone stock.
I finally stop using my TSL because of the tone loss via FX loop. My JSX does a good job, well, better than the TSL. I still think there is better amp out there for me but I've not found it yet.
Does the dsl50 head suffer of overheating issues or other tech problems?
****** Ive not heard that before.. another guy i know gigs out
2 nights a week.. has the DSL-50 turned up to 8..(thats Loud!)
and leaves it on for 5 hours..twice a week. He's been doing this
for 5 years...and not one problem. I only had mine for 5 months
before switching to VHT. No issues with my 50 watt head either
I have this exact head, except mine doesn't say 'orange crush' on the corner. There may be a glue mark where something was removed there; or I may be stupid.
What's the deal? I just saw it on craigslist last year, and was like, 'Sick!' and bought it. It sounds amazing, but I have no idea why it's orange!
You gotta go with what works for you..that's a subjective and personal choice.
Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me. It was no match for Clevo-John's VHT 2150/CAE3+..not even close.
I kept the Marshall 1960a cab for the amp that could hang with John on his best day!!!
Glad your digging yours John G..I heard players like Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach kill with theirs..so, there ya go. I still LOVE my Marshall rig. 9200 (5881s)/JMP-1/JFX-1/BBE 422 in sereo into four Marshall 1960b cabs.
The Orange looks very cool. I had fawn, white and red..I always thought white Marshalls look very classy..if their clean and in nice shape!
