  • My Mesa half stack is playing a radio station wtf?

i turned it on, turned it up, and I'm hearing this weird radio station about Jesus or something. It's weird. The amp is only connected to an AC outlet and my guitar, no pedals or anything. How is this even possible, explanation?

      Been to church lately?
      They are calling you back.
Seriously, though...there was a similar post a month ago.
It might be a bad ground somewhere.

          Its one of three things..

          Bad ground
          Bad instrument cable
          Bad speaker cable

Well, my guitar cable is ace, so I'll check the other two.

it doesn't have to be a bad cable. even a good cable can sometimes pickup radio stations. it just starts acting like an antenna.

guitar amps are just like any other electronic device...they can (and probably will) pick up interference...ive heard radio stations many times through my amp. nothing to be worried about.

You're hearing short-wave radios - probably from other continents.
                    Happens under certain atmospherical conditions.

lucky bugger. My amp won't do that, so I had to buy a separate radio

my other amp used to do that. Just pickin up interference, I wouldn't worry.

I've had my Randall RM100 do this at practice too. I found that if I disconnected my cable to the footswitch for the amp, it quieted down most of the radio signal. The Randall RM100 uses a midi cable to connect the footswitch to the amp and apparently that can act as an antenna as mentioned earlier. Never had it do this at a gig though, just at practice.
