I decided to go with the JCM900 #4500 50w Dual Reverb head and a JCM900 4 x 12 1960 bottom. For effects I am going with a Bad Horsie out in front and in the loop I am putting a preamp for solo boost (probably a YJM308 or a DOD 250), a delay and a chorus pedal. Thats it.
I also have the DSL100 that was just retubed and I bias'd it and it sounds better than ever. I will be using either one and if we start playing live more I might even start using both with an amp switcher and another 4 x 12 cabinet. We will see.
I also have a 5150-II head that I haven't used in a few years. The Vetta will be missed but I am getting a POD X3 and I still have my trusty Behringer LX112 1 x 12 modeling combo. Its a fantastic practice amp.

The JCM900 that I am getting used to belong to Strat God. I think it has Mullards in it.

I don't think you're going to miss that Vetta. It may sound good, but it is not a roaring tube head. Nothing can replace that!

I talked to my bandmate tonight and he said the same thing. Nothing will ever replace a tube amp live.

John - I'd do a clean boost rather than an overdrive pedal.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

The Marshall will beat the Vetta any day, good choice.

man there is just something really special about the way a 100w marshall rig sounds... i was listening, or watching actually that 1988 clip of FORBIDDEN that was on www.blabbermouth.net today, and it just had "That" sound. you know, it just made you feel good inside.

i really like the DSL100's amber channel or the lead channel with all the other buttons in the out position. it realy does it for me.

In terms of sound and response there still isn't anything out there that can touch a tube amp. But to be fair, tube amps loose in almost every other aspect, like weight, price, maintainance, versatility...

After all it always comes down to what you are looking for. I always have been a player who uses 1-2 sounds so naturally a tube amp fits best. I even don't use cleans much if any. That's also why i play a Rectifier

Anyway congrats to your new setup. I am sure you will put it to good use. And maybe you will end up with a SLO somewhere down the road Those amps still are one of the very best there is.

Welcome back John! I sort of did the same thing when I first got a J-Station (cool in its own right but no vetta) I didnt play tube amp for over a year. I plugged into my 2203 and BAM...instantly knew what I was missing out on, responsivness, warmth but primarily a feel kinda thing. You hear and feel a tube amp breathe, you just HEAR perfection in a modeler but FEEL bla bla

I'm a lot happier but a lot lighter in the wallet cause I got in an amp phase afterwards

Its the schmutz thing with the Vetta that really was getting to me. I found that when I had the opportunity to use all those effects and features that the Vetta has I really poured them onto my live tone. When the band was playing you really can't hear all the effects but I always thought they must have been muddying up the live sound. The other guitar player in my band uses a splash of reverb and delay for solo's only and all the other time he is playing totally dry. I have been using reverb, delay, double tracking, 2 eq's, sometimes multiple delays, and a host of other effects. I also began disliking the fact that the guitar tone really didn't change much when rolling the guitar volume down along with sometimes I really couldn't hear myself unless I turned up louder than my bandmate. I would prefer to be even with him. For solo's I really had to jump on a big solo boost to be heard. I noticed with a good tube amp that just a bump up in midrange and a little volume level increase was enough to allow a guitar solo to cut through. I play alot of solo's and fills so I need to be heard but I don't want to step on the entire mix. I had to sort of do that with the Vetta. Don't get me wrong.. the Vetta is insanely good... I am just trying to clean up my bands live tone. This change is more about my bands live tone.
