I've tried giving my Flextone III a fair shot and I just can't do it. I'm going back to real amps, so it's going to go bye bye ASAP. It's a nice amp, but the Line-6 stuff just isn't for me.

I'm really trying to find someone who'll sell me a Mesa DC-5 head, but so far no luck. I don't trust Ebay either.

Chrisolson it sounds like it could be a bad power tube. The Marshall of my band's other guitar player also hissed like crazy, even after inserting a noise gate. So it got repaired and we have been told it was a bad power tube.
So welcome to the wonderful world of tubes

And isn't it always the same ? The more eager you await something the more likey you get a turd. It happened to me so often in the past i sometimes am a bit afraid to look too much forward to something

I've had the Flextone III - twice. It was nothing special - AT ALL. I prefer the I & II over the III. BTW - I've been using L6 amps since they came out - there isn't much you can tell me about L6 amps I don't already know, noob.

Nice opinion BTW - very well put. Choad. Go back to your cave.

            Hey Flo,

I took it in last night and we jacked around with the tubes a bit, but couldn't isolate the problem. We tried subbing preamp and poweramp tubes, but it didn't go away. It's going back to L6, and I'll be getting another. We even put it against a 212 into the same cab - the 212 was dead quiet. Dammit... If the next one is a noisy mess, I'll just get the 2x12 and run it through my cab. But the head just LOOKS SO COOL!!!

It's not the first tube amp I've had though. I've had a number of Marshall's (at least a half dozen), some Yamaha's (T series/Soldano), and a Mesa Rectoverb head (which I sold to buy this!! ), so I'm no stranger to tube amps.

Oh well... Yep - the more you want it, the more likely it is to have issues... THis was the first amp/guitar/anything I've pre-ordered. It figures...

with his post i'm guessing young, don't give him any more board time. on to the SV head... i'm sure it's a case of new product and getting the bugs worked out (still sucks). that was one of my fears... so i went with the at2x12 and it got damaged in shipping... so you never know what can happen, thank god GC stepped up and did the right thing. i hope the SV works out for you. i really want to like them.

Yeah. I always get worried when I get new gear that I haven't been able to demo, especially in this case where no one else has either!

The guy at GC has been great. I can't say enough about how well he has been treating me. He's definitely the exception to the rule, a has renewed my faith in supporting the "evil empire". I'll continue to work with him on future purchases. I guess the Roseville location has always been a good one - it was the first her in the TC area, and they've been the better of the two (now four!! ) IMHO.

I'm sure it will work out - L6 stuff (except for the HORRIBLE Duoverb) has always worked well for me. If this next one has issues, I'll just go with the 212 and hook it up to my cab.

No kidding!! What the heck?!? The good news is that we as "senior members" are pretty good at self moderating. I just don't get all the venom people show up with. Just bored and needing to troll I guess.

Actually, spider valves have TWO 12ax7s and the pair of power tubes. So yeah, you could replace V2 preamp tube in one, and it may be the problem.

                        Good call Shawn!

Yep, except the head has 4 x 5881's, and 2 x 12ax7b's. We did replace them. It helped a little, but VERY little. Not enough to matter unfortunately.
