I always thought that a gt-pro is the way to go since I wanted to hook up a drum machine to the gt-8 and because it lacked an aux in, I was unable to. But, I never knew that you could use the fx-return and choose direct mix and use it as an aux in! Brilliant! The gt-8 has everything anyone could ask for. I guess Boss's bad user manual and its complexity had deterred many potential users.

Boss's bad user manuals dont stop with only the gt-8. I bought a Micro BR and the bad manual is the same. The manual does not even mention how to work the looping function of the mp3 trainer!
********* Hey! I was right for once...
( i keep discovering better tones every week out of the GT-8 I' would bet that
ive only used 50% of its capability too.. there is more!

yup! There is more. For about a week or so, I have been trying to get the unit to sound good thru my Power block->1x12 setup and yesterday I think I may have finally found it. There is a setting called "direct level" which is the very last option in the 'speaker' settings. Enuf said

Check here on my page. Scroll down a lil' bit. The clips with a "Boss GT8 pics" (on the left) are the one I made using my GT8.

Let me know if it helped.

too bad the people that do the "Idiots" guide books don't make one for the GT8.

i did take a wiff of mine and there is no ass smell that i could detect.

I found that the gt-6 just sucked my tone with my TSL. Maybe I need to take another look at it. From what I remember, I loved the chorus effect.

Although the GT-8 had much better sounding tones.i just find it easier to get the tone I like with the Line 6 gear.I dont need an effects unit for my 5150 so it was useless to me.It took a ton more time to program the GT-8 than it did the POD X3 live.

Again.... the GT-8 is much easier to program onboard than the X3 Live is. Your asessment of the GT-8 contradicts just about every other review I have ever heard.. including my experience.

***before you go "down" to a line 6 (yeah, that was a cut!) try to go
into your EQ section...and go all the way to the end parameter.. then
boost your EQ say another +5? I found in the first month, that i had all
the EQ settings at -2! The unit ships at neutral settings... so you may be
missing the "Brutal"...that the GT-8 is capable of. Either this direct
change needs to be increased, or your "Global" EQ needs to be boosted.
I wasnt that impressed at first either...now its a MONSTER!! For me
i couldnt get that damn Line6 to sound good...but then its smal LED
window drove this old fart crazy because of my poor eyesight.

most of the Pro Touring acts that use the GT-8 use the distortion channel of there tube amp with the GT-8 for effects only. except for clean sounds they bypass there tube amps preamp and use the GT-8's accoustic simulator and only the power section of the tube amp.

                          i think that is brilliant.

I kind of did the same thing with a Line6 pro rack mount..$580.00
I had it at home for 3 weeks...kept trying to get a great tone out of it..
couldnt. Returned it to GC. Many have told me, that with time the Line6
'pro stuff is killer too. Its just that my Boss is 3 times better sounding
now after 6 months, than it was the first month. Tweaking..is the key.
Again..that tiny Display on the Line 6 just killed it for this old man...

I got to try my GT8 for the first time at full volume today. I used the 4 cable method and at a moderate level it was sounding great. My presets were lovely and I thought I was sorted, then we all turned up to match the drummer. Most of the heavier patches were hitting me with feedback realy badly. It wasn't a loudness issue as I had loud patches going fine but most distorted stuff was not pretty, the other guys in the band were wailing on me for it. I had to turn the gain down until the tone was really weak. I had a bit of a tweak for about 15min but I haven't managed to find what the paramter is mostly at fault. It would appear just to be gain but I've heard people run it much higher without the feedback I experienced - also I am well aware of the noise suppressor. Its going to take more messing with to sort out this thing.
