I do the same with my RP250. I use it in the effects loop. The modeling doesn't do anything for me, except the 'acoustic simulator' which blows my mind. That is cool.

I've found that modeling and SS processors and preamps sound much better through a good tube power amp. I've been playing with getting a rack mount preamp like the new Digitech 1101 and running it into a VHT power amp. It's all how you hook the thing up and configure it.

I have spent a week playing with this thing and I am going back to LINE 6.I Just disagree that this is the top of the line unit for what it does. But one mans turd is another mans fortune.i mainley pay metal and this thing just doesnt do the job.It is a nice unit and does get some great clean tones and other nice effects but line 6 has better tones for what I need.

Believe me... it does do the job. It just doesn't do it for you personally.
Opeth uses them live and their live sound is crushing.

You've only just bought it? Spend some time with it before you draw any conclusion. I spent around 6 months+ "getting it right" with my GX700. I still haven't got it right with my GT-8 because I created the sounds through PC speakers when I should've stuck with monitoring through my DT100 headphones like I did with my GX-700. Damn, I need to kick my own ass. :ROTF:Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

quoting the words of Joe (toejam), "the gt8 has so much distortion, that its not even funny". The only way you can not get enough disto to sound metal is if you are using squier strat with single coil pup in the bridge and the pup is 1/2 inch away from the strings. ...or if you work for line6 J/K
what guitar/pups are you using? Have you tried the rectfier vintage 1 model? That's my fav. I can get anywhere from Metallica to Obituary with that Model. Set input level to -3. Choose the above model. gain 100, bass 35, mid 85, treble 60, presence 60 and choose original speakers. Choose OD pedal as Booster or crunch with drive at 30 and level at 50. Finally choose FX2 and select tone modifier. Choose resonator 2 and LOWs at +10 and high suit to taste. you are done! Tell me this does not do the trick for you.Sam

what makes the GT-8 so good for metal is that you can use your tube amps distortion and add to it, or tame it, or contour it and pretty much whatever you want. its like having a rack and all the pedals in a pedalboard.
thats where it wins over the line 6 stuff. yeah the line 6 models sound pretty good, i use them. but nothing sounds better than a cranked tube amp so why not make one that can do it all and include the cranked tube amp as an optional part of the equation.

Its to bad,I have a 5150 combo amp that I play live with I only bought this to play in the bedroom with headphones.I am of a firm mind that if it takes 6 months to tweak a unit then it probably isnt for me.I sold it yesterday and bought a line 6 X3 live and i am already happy with what kind of tones i am getting.

I can agree with that. The GT series... GT-6 and GT-8 are perfectly suited for live use right out of the box. The POD needs tweaking.
I have been tweaking my X3 Bean for over a week now and I am really starting to get the hang of it. I can't wait until the editing software is available.

I'm getting a GT8 at the weekend. Hopefully it'll deliver for my live needs. I've messed with one a good bit so I've a fair idea of what to expect. From my experience I've found that first you have to turn off all the effects. All the presets are running too much reverb. Then you can start tweaking your tone

+1. Reverb should only be added on mixdown and used sparingly, routed to individual tracks and never an entire mix. I only use reverb on percussive and clean instruments and never on "busy" mixes (high track counts). It's always best to have them running through your desk's send and returns, so you're not actually recording the effect, so you can boost or cut as required. The GT-8 has a global reverb level that you can change to 0%.Fuck ebay, fuck paypal
