IMO, It depends on the amp. On my Dual Recto, it adds a bit more clarity and tightens the response of the amp (used moderately). On my other amps (hotrod Marshall types), it adds more high treble but the feel stays the same.

My Mark IV had the same kind of feel, but it also added more highs.

I look at it as output tube EQ. It typically for me doesnt do much unless you have the amp running hot at higher volume levels

Whenever I was using my 5150 head you could easily tell when you turned the knob and I usually didn't turn it up very loud at all (excluding band practice).

I've always described it as adding more bite to your tone. I usually had it turned up quite a ways (not full though) and the resonance was almost always at maximum.

Yeah, in my opinion, the 5150s have WAY too much presence control, and it seems a tad touchy. I like presence, but it was kind of overkill for my liking.

yeah. from personal experience, I've seen that if you dime the presence knob on a solid state amp, its just fizz world unleashed. In a tube amp, it sounds much better and brings in the extra grind. especially in a 5150.

All i get is fizz with the presence knob on my V3. I just leave it on 0 at all times.

On the 2203, the presence control should be the "blast" control. I love it. I have it set on 10, 11 is just too much.

I have an MTS and I've noticed the same thing, turning it up turns up the fizz. Which is frustrating as turning it down throws a blanket over the sound.

My JCM 600 has a presence too and it's great to adjust for cutting through the mix.

it does exactly what it says... helps maintain your "presence" in the mix. its like a level knob for the higher frequencies that your treble has brought in. Its great for cutting through the mix.

All i know is that i like it! I have them on my VHT 2/90/2 rack stereo amp, and i love them set at about 3 oclock. More "shimmer"...if im
describing it right?
