my DSL 100 is bright as hell. i was wondering if any of you could recommend some preamp tubes to tame this beast. i've got the winged C el34's in its power section and that made a huge difference already. but its still a little bright.

yeah. with the winged c's in the power section i don't turn the bass up past 3 o'clock. all the way prevents me from achieving good pinch harmonics cause those power tubes have such good bass.
i might try some jj's in there, but i'm not sure yet.Comment

I had the same problem with mine (DSL50), I took your Recto advice and dimed the bass and mids, and zeroed the presence and treble. It sounds pretty good that way through my V30 cabs. Alot of mids yeah, but not overly honky or anything. Sounds best turned up past 3 on the master. The only problem is the clean doesn't sound all that great (I use OD1 for my high gain sounds).Comment

If JJ`s are took dark in the pre-amp section, try the Tung Sols, they are the most rounded pre-amp tube I ever tried with EH coming in second, but the Tung Sols have more punch.
