I wonder if it sounds thin and lifeless like Randy's original tone. I am the first to admit that he was a monster of a player and one of my favorites of all time... a true inspiration... but with that said, his tone sucked live.

Let's see a Marshall that will give me that tone..that shouldn't be hard. I've spent decades trying to avoid that tone.
The tone anyone loves was in Randy's hands..and that's it!!!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

I think that's a killer head! With the cascading mod it should take it into JCM800 territory and I love white tolex! I also think that black logo is cool. I hope they do a cool matching cab although I don't know if I'd like the Altec speakers. I wish I still have my Sandoval and LTD to put in front of one of these things!

I loved Randy's tone! Anyway, from what I was told at NAMM, Randy's amp was not a stock JMP. It was modded for more gain. While there are plenty of ultra high gain amps on the market today if you think back to the late 70's/early 80's a Marshall was pretty much the obvious choice. I used to own a mid 70's Super Lead 100 Marshall and it had tons of head room (I had the non-master volume version). It needed a distortion pedal in front of it however. I heard the Rhoads head at NAMM in the demo room and this thing sounded better to me than my old Marshall. The cabs will not have the Altec's in them however because I was told at NAMM the cost was too prohibitive. They told me that most likely they will be Celestion Greenbacks.Rudy
