  • Pedal chain On A budget - Build Yours

I thought this might be of some help to the average guy, new or not all that familiar to pedal selection, get a feel for what is preferred in an "Order Of Preference/Priority" format. It would be interesting to see a cross section/variety of opinions on this.

These are Pedals Only - No Multi-Effects/Modelers & No Rack Gear (that's another story for another thread).

Here's the deal. You have a strict budget to put together a pedal assym. Power adapters/bricks, pedal boards, cables and batteries not included (leave them out of this equation). You have to have each pedal. You can spend no more than $125 on any pedal with the exception of ONE that you feel is worth it (just can't live w/o it) and ONE MORE for your obligatory Noise Reduction Pedal, if you so choose. That allows you up to TWO instances to blow the budget of $125 or less per pedal. Choose wisely.

    You Must Have:
One Noise Reduction Pedal - Brand & Model + Street Price.
    One or Two Boost/OD Pedal(s) - Brand & Model + Street Price.
One Distortion Pedal - Brand & Model + Street Price.
One Delay Pedal - Brand & Model + Street Price.
One Reverb Pedal - Brand & Model + Street Price.
One Chorus Pedal - Brand & Model + Street Price.
In an insane world, only the sane seem crazy.

    prices are used
    NR - Decimator - under $100
    Boost/OD - Clark Gainster - TS909 RI - both under $125
    Distortion - modded DS-1 - under $100
    Delay - blow the budget and get a DD-20 - $175
Reverb - fuck reverb - buy a keg of beer and enjoy your other pedals
Chorus - MXR Stereo Chorus (newer 18v one) - under $125
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

I'm not following your format, but here's what I would use if I used individual pedals...

Morley Bad Horsie 2 $75 used
      Boss TU-2 $60 used
      Boss SD-1 $30 used

      All out front and

      Boss GE-7 $65 used
      Boss DD-3 $80 used

      in the loop.

Total: $310 plus power supply, cords, a board to mount them on...

I'd just buy a used BOSS GT-8/10 or Line 6 XT/X3 Live for that price

You did not meet his requirements.

            Decimator as said
TS-10 or custom configurable 808 clone
Spend distortion pedal money on better tubes to slam with the ts pedals
            Boss microrack delay
No reverb, add another delay, microracks are cheap and awesome, alternatively find a boss dm100/dm300
Ibanez 9 series chorus or boss hf-2 flange (dm300 comes with chorus too)

These are the best I've tried

The thread line was to put together, on a budget, a specific setup of your choosing. Meaning brand and model to fill in the specific blanks. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to ask for a format. I'd just say "hey, what's your fav pedal or modeler units." Kinda nondescript and useless that way for informational purposes.

The Hipster is correct, I must say. Please follow the bouncing ball long enough to answer properly instead of kicking the ball to the curb with an unrelated answer? Thanks! Otherwise I'm going to be forced to dig out my old RIF (reading is fundamental) books and pass them out. Yeah, they're from back in the day. And they date me. But they obviously worked. OTOH, pay me no mind. I'm the kid that failed sandbox. Because I couldn't find my toes!
