  • Running Two Cabs

What is the best way to run two cabs with one head?
This is the first gig that I have to play being the only guitar player and
I was thinking of putting a cab on each side of the drummer.
Would this be a bad idea?

    There is no rule.

Mesa Recto head, two Mesa Recto Cabs

ok, should I hook it up like this
2, 4ohm outs from the head into
      2, 8ohm cabs?

            Cool.
            It will work.
Just brushed up on the specs for the head and yes, you can safely run two 8 ohm cabs in the config you mentioned.

            From Mesa Boogie
When using two 8 Ohm speakers, connect them both to the 4 Ohm outputs provided
(because the total load is 4 Ohms in that case.)

I drove everyone crazy with this 6 months ago. On my Stereo rig, im
using 1 VHT 4/12 cab (16 ohms) and 2 Crate 2/12 cabs...(6.8 ohms each) (8 ohms) So i plug the 4/12 into A' Channel and set it at 16ohms
and each of the 2/12 crates go into the dual B' channel and set the amp
at 4 ohms for this side.
You just want your speakers to be more ohms than your amp setting.
Bad would be to have an 8 ohm speaker plugged into the 16 ohm setting
                on the amp.

Our whole PA is in the backline - BOSE PAS - so I run 2 cabs too, unmiked. I place them one on each side of the stage, facing the crowd. Sometime a little angle on one to let the drummer hear more. Both are equipped with Weber beamblockers to not kill my drummer or audience. With our setup I get to crank up my VHT 2902 to mix along with the PA volume.
