Boss RC-2 looper question...

Hi all -
So i just picked up a boss rc-2 looper.
I have some questions about it, regarding if this is normal.
1 - When i record a clean sound, and save it, then play it back so i can play a lead over it, the clean sound also becomes distorted. The same holds true if i record a distorted rhythm and want to play a clean sound over it (probably would never do this anyways) the recorded distorted rhythm becomes clean. Is this normal?
2 - The guide pattern also gets distorted when i use switch over to a distorted tone; is this normal?

Where is the loop pedal in your effects chain?

Is it pre or post distortion pedal?

Are you using your amp for distortion?

If you are hitting the looper right from your guitar, and all of the distortion is post-looper, the signal gettting sent to the looper will always be clean.

Thanks. I'm using my amp's distortion presently so I'm pretty much screwed.

I tried the higher end RC-20XL and was disappointed. They just don't "get it" as far as how to use these in a live setting. I found it often took two taps to accomplish something that should only take one. I returned it and got a "Boomerang". Now those folks "get it".
