I keep thinking about doing the same thing myself, but it's hard to let go of the millions of options with the modeling rig.
    +1

I have a Carvin V3 and it would be the ultimate amp for the price you want and the capabilities you need. it simply rips, and has a great clean channel too.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

With $1500.00 to spend I would go with a Carvin Legacy half stack

You could search craigslist and get a used half stack and have money left over for more toys

I like the Legacy but I don't think it's a good choice for prog metal.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

+1 for the V3 (that's what I'm running). But the reissue X100b is also a great choice for the money. Depends on if you need low volumes or not. The V3 is a monster even at 50 watts. I'll be getting a reissue next

$1500 is enough coin to get a nice amp. I picked up my Mesa Triple Rec with matching 4x12 for $1580 used.
                Damn, I love this Interweb.

+ 1 more for the Carvin X100B and matching full stack.
