  • need a set up for pc guitar recording

i'd like to get into recording guitar tracks on my laptop but i've never done it and i have no idea what to use - ideally i'd like to plug my guitar straight into a device and then into my laptop - is there something out there that works without using an interface? i don't have a firewire port if that helps - all suggestions will be appreciated - thanx, neddi

Pod XT live to the rescue! Its a guitar interface/sound card, amp modeller all in one and it sounds awesome. Its what I use for all of my guitar/bass recording needs.

Does the XT Live have bass stuff? I thought that's only on the X3.

There's also the Line6 Guitar Port and/or Toneport stuff. I don't know much about it though.

I've actually had good results using a cheapo headset to mic my guitar cab...

I have the UX2 version of this and all of the presets sound killer for home recording. I A/B the toneport to the PodXt and the guitar tones sound near identical so the modeling software is the same. Quality product for sure. I think you would be better off with the UX2 as you'll probably out grow thw limitations of the model you mentioned. Check out.

M Box into Pro Tools. M audio makes a PT system too.

I have a Line6 TonePort but I don't like the Gearbox stuff at all so I use it only as a soundcard. I tried out AmpliTube and found it to be much better.
