I'm looking to try something different in my cabs. Right now I have a Recto traditional 4x12 (basically a standard Mesa 4x12, not the "oversized" one), and a Mesa Recto 2x12 (oversized cab). Both have V30's in them and though I think they do sound ok, I've always felt every amp I've played through them sounds a bit harsh (JSX, 6505, Soldano Avenger, Marshall DSL, Recto, Roadster...).
What speakers would you recommend that have a tight low end and good mids? I think that is the problem with the V30's... they have a harsh midrange quality to them. I want that cut without the harshness. I've tried G12-75T's and didn't like them too much... too ice-picky up top IMO. They don't have to be Celestions either. I've heard good things about Eminence and also Mesa C90's (I also have a 3/4 back Mesa 1x12 with one in it, though I haven't seen it much over the last few years as my Nephew is "borrowing" it haha. I've always liked the way that cab sounded).
The music I play is hard rock and metal (in an old school way). I also use 7 strings for some stuff I'm writing as well.
