  • Anyone close to getting the BOSS GT-10?

It's "Calling" me! Im also curious (this if for you Bill Z.) about the G-Force? Anyway..im afraid if i go into a GC, or Sam Ash, and they have
the 10 for say $449.00... im gonna jump! I figure i can play with it for
    28 days...and if it's not kickin the GT-8's ass...then return it. Anyone
    here already have one?

GC here has it, but they said they are not going to be dealing anytime soon as they are selling faster (not at that store as they can't even give stuff away, but nation wide) than stores are getting them in stock, which is believable. According to the guy there, it's more user friendly and has a few more features, but the sound quality is about the same. I have not played one to confirm this though.

Being as Academy Of Twunts (Sound Control) are in administration, it'll be a long time before I get one, unless I can get one of those mom n pop shops to special order one, and I won't get any discounts.

After I integrated the HC with my GT-8, I couldn't be happier with the sounds the gt-8 can make. I dont think I will go for the gt-10. Maybe I'll buy another gt-8 and a HC as a backup.

But, I've also learnt 'Never say never'.

The "Auto Riff" and Harmonizer" seem amazing to me... Im going to
buy one...and (like the Line 6 i had for 2 weeks) Return it if it doesnt
          blow my mind. :-))

huh? Auto-riff is available already on the gt-8.

            From the gt-8 manual...

            AR (Auto Riff)
This allows you to automatically produce a phrase simply by
picking a single note. This can be used to easily play
            extremely rapid phrases.

However, there is a Harmonist and a Humanizer available in the gt-8. What does the harmonizer in a gt-10 do?

If the gt-10 is anything like the gt-8, it will take you more than 2 weeks to fall in love with it. From what I've read on the gt forums, it seems the preset patches are readily usuable with little or no mods... unlike the gt-8's and the "easy" mode for generating new sounds is pretty nice to generate new sounds. it gives you a cool visual of what you're changing and how it affects the tone curve or something like that. But still you're ears are gonna be the judge.

Oh, I don't know about the g-8 or g-10. I just run a G-major. I use it mainly for the tuner/noise gate/lead boost and some delays..

I run a JFX-1 w/ the Marshall just for delays. I bought that whole rack system together in '96..but I love it since.

I haven't even touched my GT-8 in months. There's just so much in there that I will never use. I guess I should hook it up and start messing with it again.

a gt-8 discovery that I wish to share. Oh, there are so many of 'em hidden away in the beast

set the Direct level to 100
this is the one under the "speaker" option of preamps. I was experimenting with a JMP-1 hooked up to the gt-8 in the 4 cable method and was trying to match the sound of the JMP-1 with one of the models. Once I set the direct level to 100, that was it! Thick beefy sound and no need to mess with the global eq's at all. Anyway, thought I'll share.

EDIT: BTW, this thick sound I'm talking about is not something heard at a bedroom level. this is at gig volumes and has cut through the drummer's racket.

Like i said the GT-10 will have to impress me pretty quick! Cause ive
got a spot on Carlos Cavaso "Bang your head" tone right now...and it's
great! Can i really get a better one with the 10? Doubt it.
Ha! iM reading my reply, and after 2 months with the 10'.. its TWICE the 8! Do it...get it...
and if Sam Ash has that one day sale again, you can walk out with a GT10 for $416.00 TOTAL!

I'm considering the GT-10. But, I can probably pick up a clean used GT-8 for about half of the price of the 10. I'm not too sure it's really worth the extra jack.

I've not long had the 8 and the only thing that I can see being an improvement is the dual fx's for using clean and distortion and the better and bigger lcd screen and menu driven system, though i'm pretty competant with the GT-8 now though.....

I don't know if just having the dual fx/amps would really be utilised by me.....

Assuming you could send two mono signals. 1 distorted, the other clean, then output both left and right independently, for example; then I can see a use for it. Being there's also a loop phrase recorder built in too, you could make quite a complicated mix. So I'm still interested in buying one.
