This is obviously mastered and recorded pretty damn well (and it's a freaking youtube clip ), but this shit is right up my alley:

The Blackmore is like a stripped down Savage with less gain. It still has plenty of gain for any purpose, but I use channel 4 with the gain almost maxed out to get the sound I want. Still, it gets there no problem. It is not really very saturated sounding though, almost how I would expect a VHT to sound though I haven't tried one. It sounds heavier than hell though and I love it to death.

Loomis always sounded fuckin' great, and he's used Pod Pro's, Rectifiers, Triple X's, Kranks and now Engls... Actually, live he sounded pretty shitty through the Kranks

Wassup Guys!!!
I'm sorry for the late response...been sidetracked with homelife.
OK there is THREE players that hellped me cultivate my playing and most importantly my tone! The first is the obvious Eddie Van Halen. Secondly it was Criss Oliva from HOTMK('87) to EOT('93-RIP), and lastly Jeff Loomis..from '96 to present. Like Dumpy and Bibz have mentioned Jeff used many different rigs. On TGE He used a Recto, XXX and a Krank..but I'm not quite sure he actually used the Krank that much if at all. Jeff's BEST "live" sound is his Recto...period! I've seen him with his Mesa Triaxia-Mesa Poweramp/ Pod Pro-Mesa poweramp /Recto / XXX / and a Krank. Jef never sounded bad , but the worst sound he ever had was with the Krank..the leads sounded could, but all his fast, cool palm muted stuff was really mushy for the first time that I saw him . That sucked because I LOVE Jeff's rythm playing just as much or more so than his solos. Ironically favorite Nevermore tone is on Dead heart in a dead world..tones like "The River Dragon" is exactly what I strive for and that is with a Pod pro!! I nail that tone with my kid's 30 wt spider. So keep in mind whenver I'm playing/dialing in any amp..the sound in my head is Nevermore. There is many amps I tried that allowed me to articulate that tone and style including My Uberschall, JSX, XXX, Pod Pro-Mesa 290, several VHTs, ..the 5150 alone is a tad too dark and spongy, unless you tighten things up with less gain and stomp like alot of guys do. As far as Rectos...I do not get along with them from day one. But like I said that's Jeff's tone to dat IMO. I tried a Krank with my boy John C of Beyond Fear who owned powerballs and now owns 6505s. It was a fuggin' joke. We literally couldn't dial in anything close to what we like. My old Marshalls seem to do classic VH/Savatage very well and I was playing "the River Dragon" with it with no problem. I don't know how it would convey in a rdecording. The only Marshall that could deliver anything close to NM's tone in person is the JVM. Of all the amps out there other than my Bogner..I get along with the JSX and the JVM the most. I have yet played a Engl. But my friend toured with them for two years and tried everything along the way and ended up with 5150/6505... So, You gotta go what works for you.
Nick is better qualified to answer this one at this time IMO. He posted a GREAT A/B comparison of his Recto and JSX doing Nevermore in the MP3 section. Both amps really deivered, because HE delivered it. I think the Recto is a bit more "true to form" but the solos seem to sound a little better with the JSX..its a close one to call really. Definitely worth checking out his clips!!!
Go with whatever works for you..let your ears be the judge. You can't go wrong with an Uberschall. I've owned mine sine 2002 and I haven't found anything even close to replace it.If I didn't own the Bogner, I prolly would consider the JSX, and love to play the Engl SE..Id prolly give the JVM another try to. But not the Recto..I plug in and hear instant fizz..it's there no matter how I tweak it. But that fucking fizz machine IS my favorite NM amp so far..I don't hear the fizz when he's plays it...just fuggin' awesomeness.
Remember MOST your tone is in your hands. Jeff sounds like Jeff..if you want to sound like any player..it depends more on your ability than the amp IMO. Especially through any decent amp.
I think alot of people put more faith in what gear they use than their abilities. I'm prolly a little guilty of that too."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

TGE was definitely recorded with a Krank Revolution and Dual Rectifier, 4 guitar tracks, 2 of each, according to Andy Sneap who recorded the album. DHIADW was all Dual Rectifier, no Pods used on the album at all.
That's Andy Sneap's magic creating those tones I think though, have you heard the new Testament album? 5150 III, one of the best guitar sounds I've ever heard. Or Killswitch Engage - "The End of Heartache", that was mostly 5150. Andy Sneap manages to get fucking amazing sounds out of everything.

Dumpy..I agree that Andy Sneap is da man!!
But Jeff told me that he did DHIADW with his Pod. He could have said pud..the PA music was loud and I am going fuggin' deaf. So all these years I have the word POD etched into my beanie!!
Funny, I was going to mention the 5150III..it's capable!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

Yeah in all the namm08 clips its just loomis with a pod and it sounds fantastic. You also cannot attain the album tones with an amp. The difference the amp/speaker/mic/micpre/desk etc make is huge, then there blended and mixed and compressed and eq'd, then mastered...just find a tone you really like that has your fave gain structure and a decent eq section.
And I loved the blackmore I played, could totally get a happy nevermore tone out of it too!
