  • Blown out amp help

Hey guys, I just blew out my amp and I'm wondering what I need to do to make it work again.

I just have a little Fender Frontman 25R that I use as a practice amp (now, it was a full on everything amp while I was waiting for my GT8, which is when I blew it out). I use the GT8 through the PA now, so I don't need a big amp.

I was wondering if it is the speaker or possibly something else that blew. It still works, but has a VERY shrill sound to it now, especially at higher volumes. Could I just replace the speaker and have it still work?

If that is the case, I'd like to get a nice speaker to replace it (looks easy enough to do). I don't know anything about speakers really, so what would you recommend? It seems that Celestion greenbacks are one of the more popular speakers. I play almost exclusively 80s metal. Its also 8ohm, so I'm assuming that a 16ohm would be very bad, right?

    Thanks for the help guys!
