You're right. It does sound decent. For that genre of guitar playing, it seemed just right. Lacked the warmth of full tube amps though. Be that as it may, it seems that it would've been worth it for what it offers.

They are a good inexpensive way to get a traditional Marshall tone. Unfortunately.. they don't hold up volume wise when you are playing live. You need tubes for that.

The sound you get out of your VS100 is fine traditional Marshall tone.. until.. you:

1. Play live and realize your tone is thin and extremely hard to hear with virtually no presence
2. Play with another guitarist with any type of all tube amp. That is when you realize that the Marshall Valvestate is a great home practice amp and a pretty darn good recording amp.
