The UPS truck dropped off a nice package today:
As a huge Randy fan, I knew I had to have it the second I heard about them. I also have the "A" cab on the way to complete the full stack, which will essentially be eye candy for my guitar room/studio...no live gigs for this rig.
Tonally, it's pretty cool. The cascade mod gives it a bit more gain in the preamp stage and really ups the treble response...this thing is bright! To my ears it sounded like it had les midrange than Randy's tone, but he was known to use an MXR EQ to bump his mids so I'm guessing that's the difference. Anyway, it sounds good but quite frankly I prefer channel one which is simply unmodded classic Plexi tone...sounds killer with the volume around 6. I launched into "Jailbreak" by Thin Lizzy and was in pure Marshall heaven
The amp is also extremely dynamic in either channel...roll back the volume on the guitar and you're greeting with that robust Marshall clean tone. Very cool!
And what guitar did I use for the test drive? What else could I use:
