  • Bare Knuckle for RR1

    Hey,

I was wondering if some of you had any suggestions for replacing a Duncan Custom and Jazz (neck) in my RR1.

I was thinking of Bare Knuckle Pick-ups, especially the Nailbomb and Cold Sweat (neck). Not that I want a totally new sound, I'd just like it to sound more dynamic, which I think the BKPs are capable of.

This is a clip of the Nailbomb: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/foru...7.0;attach=364

I like the clean of the Jazz a lot, and I don't know how the Cold Sweat is clean-wise. I heard it should be good for shredding and sweep-picking though.

I use the RR1 as main guitar for melodic-death/speed/thrash metal.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I also had a Custom in my RR3 and never liked it much either. Same with the Invader, although that was great for rythm.

I've got a set of Blackouts in mine now and they're great. They're not as high gain as I'd expected though, so maybe you could look into the Blackout Metal set.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Custom very much, but I'd like it to be more dynamic, harmonically rich.

      For what's it worth, I use an Engl 570 (SE) pre-amp, VHT 2/50/2 and TC-Electronics G-major, Celestion V30 speakers.

      Cheers

I think the nailbomb cold sweat combo would work the cold sweat is only 8.5 k or something and tim reccomended me that set for a similar guitar and said that cleans wouldnt be a problem...

Give him an email and see what he says, I think the cold sweat can also do very smooth lead tones in the neck also...

Good luck and what covers would you be going for? anything fancy or just plain plastic bobbins...

          I'd say buy them used.

I've not used them, but one member here bought one new, didn't like it, and had a hell of a hard time trying to get rid of it.

Not trying to slam BKP's, but I'd have a hard time trying to justify spending more than $50US shipped for a pickup.

I have BKs in two of my guitars
the nailbomb/coldsweat combo is great in Mahogany/maple. If you have alder body I'd check out the Holydiver for the bridge as well.
The coldsweat neck sounds like a cross between a 59 and a jazz. It's become my favorite neck pickup.
I have a Miracleman in the bridge of my 7620 and a jazz in the neck, and they sound great in that guitar. killed the mudiness that basswood can have.
I haven't tried their 6 string pickups yet , but their 7 string pickups smoke everything else on the market.
Very expensive if you're in the US though.

If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

I've been looking for secondhand BKPs for ages, you very rarely come across them. I just missed a cold sweat on Ebay last week-end, and I believe that was the first CS I ever saw go secondhand.

@ozzuk1: I'd be going for the plain versions.

I heard/tried the miracle man bridge in a SL1 and found it way too bright.

Besides the Jazz, I loved the SD Pearly Gates for clean neck sounds, but the Jazz is way better with overdrive.

Nice smooth leads are required as well, so I'll mail Tim what he thinks about this combo for a poplar body/maple neck-through/ebony fretboard.

Thanks for the tips so far, guys!

Btw, shipping to mainland Europe is about 10€ (15$), so not that bad

I'm definitely going for a Cold Sweat neck, but after mailing Tim I'm doubting between a Nailbomb and Painkiller for the bridge.

Any of you have tried either?
